After breaking the larger replacement rudder, I'll re-fit my class-compliant original rudder to my Cavalier 28. Before I do, I'll fair it off with a sander and repaint the upper part. The lower part, below the water line, will get anti-fouled with the rest of the boat.

What paint should I use? Is it a case of going down to the big green hardware store and finding any exterior paint with a colour match, or should I be looking for something more "yachty"?

I would just add a few drops of black into a container of white ALDI metal paint.

Big green hardware store or if philosophically opposed to predatory pricing giants, a good local paint store and source an oil based quality paint.

That rudder has been chopped. The standard Cav 28 rudder is shaped like a spitfire wing. Laurie Davidson was very pedantic about his foil shapes. I'll try and upload a pic of mine. Its just out of shot in my avatar.
