Hi all, this unit came with my boat when I bought her early in the year, it came with what is in the picture plus spare filters, membrane cleaning kit and other odds and ends.

The system was never used by the second owner but it had been cleaned and stored properly. I Intend connecting it up and running some rain water through it to see if all works and if that proves OK I'll try it with sea water.

I read somewhere that town water is a no no.

Anyone here have experience with this system?

Sorry can't help with your brand of water maker but the membrane in mine doesn't like chlorine. (well above a certain concentration) So the best thing is never to put town water through it. But the membranes also don't like the swill that your boat floats in while in a marina or some rivers. Best place is a few miles out to sea.

If you are not using them for a while, then you need to put a special solution through them that will give them a bout 10 months shelf life. The other option, if it is already installed and ready for use, is to run them ever 10 days. I normally make sure my tanks are full before coming into a marina where I may be staying for more than 10 day and then I run this fresh water back through membrane for a bout 10 minutes every 10 days. I've actually just been to the boat and done it today.

If you wish to use chlorinated town water then I suggest taking it from the hot water tap as the chlorine will have been boiled out.

If using the cold water tap, store the water in a large open top vessel and let the chlorine evaporate out over a day or so.

The other thing that came to mind this morning after buying a small masters cheap pressure washer is could you use a pressure washer pump lets say out of a Gerni which has a ceramic pressure pump as part of a water maker system?


I just read on this site that you can use there high pressure pump as a deck wash also

But they also sell the membrane unit on its own would it be possible to fit it to a less than $200 Gerni pressure washer and alter a few fittings to suit and add a primary filter

To me if it was possible it would make an affordable solution . Gernis are cheap enough and replaceable ,so are E bay gen sets add the membraine kit and a filter

it would work you think a sea water filter before the Gerni and buy the Economy Reverse Osmosis Unit add power and should be good to go
fresh water for around $2000
Gerni $200
Economy revers osmoses unit$1430 unless you pieced it together your self maybe slightly cheaper
Genset$500
Perhaps you could strip the Gerni and fit the pressure pump next to the alternator on the Bukh diesel and add a A/C clutch pulley
so you could possible put a unit together for under $2000 plus a energy source
That sure beats going back in for water

Im interested in the pressure pump idea.. i have a $50 ozito 12 volt car wash thingamup, it dont say the sort of pump it has but 100psi at 1-3 litres per minute!! Ill find a cheap pre filter and a 50gpm? reverse osmosis thingo on ebay? Easy enough to add to or improve the systems as i go..

I'm sure it wouldn't require rocket science to make a good functional water maker.

Collecting rain water will be far cheaper and easier than ttying to build some type of contraption.....however I wish you luck and pass on your builds if they work out?

Loose Change if you look at the video the product has two parts the motor and pump high pressure the other part Economy Reverse Osmosis Unit is waht you would need to buy and with the gauge attached all you need to do is regulate the pressure to what the video suggests cant remember right now but it ws less that what a gerni puts out

Yes, you could try that ...... it's known as a solar still .... it has very low out put and drinking pure distilled water is not good for you.

I was trying to correct my above post re building a watermaker with the small 12 volt pump when i discovered i need 8 times the power to push through that membrane but think i had too much distilled water that i am not making much sense of it.

Been thinking on those Plasimoto water bags any one used them? From what Ive read you should lay them on some thing soft rather than the hull sides and strap them down

Too many horrible life 'stories' it is a terrible 'infliction' not being able to prove and move on. Something in the 'air' more powerful than our police!! I am happy in the idea that there will be a time when a few 'good' peoples could explain the cause of my predicaments, investigations some going on 20 years and then some, stuff too dangerous to speak of, obviously and again isnt be the only reason i battle strenuous mental urges to buy a cold one or three what never works in my favour!!! Anyhow, i still use up to 60 meters of garden hoses i use to top my water supply...
