Photos taken at the World Viper Championships held in Perth this Week. Mondays race was a real ripper with a blowy South Westerly wind. Today is a lay day - but there is racing on Thursday and Friday this week in Melville Waters on the Swan River....

Flashback to a heat of the 1978 Hobie 16 Worlds, South Padre Island, Texas. We managed to save this nosedive and continue on to win the heat leading three other Australian crews also placing in the top 5.

The background in the photo looks pretty tame but it was blowing well over 25 knots.

Putting the crew back together 30 years later for the 2009 World Masters Games, my forward hand, who looks singularly unimpressed here, advised me that it was his turn to steer.

Gravy7 - love the background story to the shot...................

Forward hands think they can do better than the skipper - pass over the tiller to see what happens!!

Nowhere near as cool as the above, no outside view in this one, but it felt like a wild ride to me!
You can see the boat speed as the top number under the " % Polar Speed "
Lydia was helming at the time, made it look easy.

Of course if its not an 18ft skiff it barely counts as a wild ride

I have a Sanyo waterproof video mounted on the stern time synced with a Garmin GPS in the boat. Used a product called Dashware to put the telemetry onto the video.
Appears it is now free to download. www.dashware.net/

This was the last day of Geographe Bay Race Week. On Stand Aside a Thompson 870. We got bored with the fractional kite, so put up the masthead, the wind promptly rose to over 30 knts and we had a wild ride until it ended predictably. If I can post the gopro footage I will!
