Hi , I can not get my gas stove to light, got a new gas bottle and regulator, I am new to gas and there are 2 shut off valves one before the cooker and the other before the water heater. I have tried them in both positions because I do not know which is the on or off position.

When I turn on the gas stove I can not smell any gas or get any of the hobs to light.

I have added pics of the layout, a copper gas pipe which links from the regulator/bottle, through the deck and then splits one way to the gas stove and the other way to the water heater, there is no master shut off valve. I have checked the main pipe for flow by disconnecting one side and could smell gas so no blockages in the pipes. I can only assume the Lido cooker is not allowing the gas to flow.









it be the water heater and cooker through lack of use have somehow got blocked? (over 6 years no use).

Any ideas on how to test them and unblock them?

Got one working on the stove, took the top of the cooker off, vacuumed over the jet areas and stuck a bbq lighter down, seems to work, must have been all the saw dust from he refit I did possibly blocking the gas from getting out?

please be very careful ......suggestion........ get a licensed gas fitter to do the job

As I have said before While at the Melbourne car show years ago at the Royal Exhibition building thought Id get some fish and chips in one of the side wing in the Exhibition building while waiting at the deep fry counter for a while some one must have not lite one of the deep fries correctly all of a sudden there was a flash of fire from the ground up to 350 cm high 20 feet long by 15 foot wide . I don't think any of the ladies there needed to shave there legs that week Lucky it was not any higher or there would have been Brazilians all round I should not joke really is was quiet scary specially for the people behind the counter.
So as the gas system on your boat has been out of service for so long please for a hundred or so dollars get a Qualified gas fitter or plumber to make sure its in top working order Imagine that gas that I saw in your bilge and think what it would have done

Can recall a guy in N.Z. fitting out his new Cat at only had a couple of days to go to complete it unfortunately he came to grief with a power lead . Id hate to see that happen to you

simple rule...if you have gas, get a gas alarm fitted. Leaks can come from lots of reasons not just maintenance... just not turning it off properly. You don't even need a fire/explosion to have a problem. Asleep when a leak occurs and cabin fills with gas.....

Thanks for the advice guys some explosive information there!, seems to be working ok now, i turn the gas bottle off after cooking so there will not be any leaks, have carbon monoxide alarm, will get LPG alarm too. Its a very basic system with copper pipes, I think the cooker was working all along I just did nt push the buttons in enough as I was twisting. The gas bottle is outside on the deck. The whole system is not any morre complicated than a BBQ. Cooked some baked beans and tasted good.

The original gas bottle was stamped 1979 and still seemed to have some gas in it, shame to waste the gas but only 22.60 for a swap for a full bottle.

Next task will be to try to get the valliant hot water heater on.

If it was my gas system Id replace those old flexible line you have there

dont mess with it mate. take it from someone who knows all about it. I've seen what happens first hand, along with the liability you expose yourself to just to save a few bucks.

Get a gas fitter.

i can't believe you did that.
i can only hope you purged the gas out of the system first, but i doubt it.

I fitted my gas 7 years ago all new.....got a gas certificate and it passed with flying colours...law in qld states you need to get a new certificate each time u change rego hands in your current vessel. I now state no gas if I sell the vessel. My only drama is it seems that the burner does not get the heat like it did brand new.....I blame the swap gas bottle rather than my installation.... I prefer to use the butane cooker for stir frys and fried meat and just use the stove/oven for heating the jug or slow cooked roasts......gas does not worried me it seems the insurance company's don't bother either they have not asked for a new certificate since........I believe the rego thing is just to inform the fireys if there is gas onboard hence the two explosive bottles if a fire ever exists!
