Dear friends,

My YSE8 is getting serviced by mechanic and will be done soon. The old paint was green but it is gone. I would like to paint it in red. Do you have any suggestions what kind of paint I should use and where to buy it. I have come across some heat resistant paint in Bunnings but I don't feel confident to paint the engine before I got some suggestions from you guys. Your expertise is based on years and years of hard work and it means a lot to me. Very happy to have you guys here on forum.

Supercheap auto have engine paint which should do the job.
Make sure you take the time to give it a good sand and degrease before you paint and also mask off hoses and other parts that you don't want painted.
Then post a photo of the finished job.

Yep, red is faster!!

As Stray said above - degrease is especially important, then wash with soap & water, then give it a go with Wax & Grease remover for a good job. All available from Supercheap or Repco etc. while you're getting your red Engine Enamel.

Try not to do all your boat shopping at Bunnings!

As mentioned above, the engine MUST be rust and contaminant free.
If possible warm up the engine before you apply paint.
Drag the engine out into the sun for a few hours or make a housing and fire up a heater (SAFELY!)
Paint will adhere better to a warm surface.

Excellent, thank you. Just found out by mechanic that new piston must be ordered because the old one somehow got in touch with water. So I will take some time to mashine a head and piston before painting job but as soon as the job is completed I will posted the photo .
can't wait to go sailing seriously..

Geez Serb,
I envy you if you have the machinist skills to whip up a new head. I would of thought the billet alone would be worth more than finding a 2nd hand head and reconditioning it?

we will never know. I am expecting from the mechanic to put new parts and make it working like a new. There was a serious thought to gave up on Tasman put an outboard on it and then sell it and get a Cole Bounty 35 but when you think about it 3k will bring me back to Sailling with my Tasman but to get a bounty 35, new bigger mooring, insurance and all headache that will come with 40 years old bounty it's just worth it. When you think only 500 bucks to take it out of water and 1000 bucks to survey the boat just to make sure that is a good buy I am starting to love my Tasman more and more ??????????One day I will get a 35 foot boat but till then will fix my Tasman and enjoy her character and charm. You never know how much unexpected issues will arise with 7t boat. On the other hand Tasman is bulletproof except the current issue with the engine which will be fixed soon. I been looking around and I am shocked by fact that many boats around harbour have been seriously neglected. That is vary sad.. If one is very rich that is ok to spend a lot of money on the boat, insurance etc. and occasionally go to sail but an ordinary person needs to have low maintenance little boat that costs (250 bucks in third party insurance, mooring fees and a grant for anti felling every 18 months) 100L of diesel and that is it. Cole Bounty 35 will cost triple, not to mention the price. Is it really worth for a learners like me?
Unless one is living on the boat I just cannot justify thousands and thousands thrown in the bin. Maybe I am wrong but I just feel that way.
I will send the picture of a rebuild YSE8 a video of my Tasman flying 6.5 knots around the Shark island...

I did everything as adviced. Spent hours and hours of hard work pull a part the engine 3 times. I just can not make it working. It looks so simple but something is just not right. The YSE8 beast is not starting. I think I almost killed my batteries and a starter trying. The job must be done by a professional mechanic. Days after days and is just not working. I am giving up and letting mechanic do the work so I can finally go sailing. I have never seen someone struggling so much with this issue. It's so hard to find a mechanic who want to rebuild YSE8. They all want to install a new engine.
