Went out to look at a Marauder 24 which is currently looking a bit sad and mostly providing a home for seagulls.

Apparently it came off the mooring and collided with a bridge at one point, but thankfully the stays gave way before anything else.

The bit that has some of us concerned is the cracking around the ribs above the keel. You can see it worst in the forward rib in the picture below. Is this indicative of serious deficiency as some of us have been told, or is it more cosmetic, or is it just too hard to say for sure?

We'd only be river and near costal sailing but we still want to have confidence in it!

Hi Woylie
Love the feathers!!
I was waiting for someone more qualified to reply.
No one has , so I will jump in.

That would not bother me.
It looks a lot more like delamination of polyester resin and rot that impact damage.
A haul out would cost but maybe a dive over the side and a feel for a hull to keel crack would be a good idea. Or just an idea.

Not a big job to grind out and replace with glassed over ply (the original material) or GRP sheet (if you want to go high tech.)
I would go cheap and quick.
If the floors are like that I have a feeling that there are lot more similar surprises lurking, But if you like a nice little sailboat to bring back to life, a Marauder would be fine.

Lets call it a modern classic, shall we.

Thanks Gary. Appreciate your thoughts. Disturbed quite a few gulls! It could be a really nice bit of kit if it could be cleaned up but I don't think the owners have the time.
