At some stage we will be moving up to a larger boat. Manitou may be an option but not sure how it would sail as they have long overhangs each end, and doesn't seem to be a lot of room inside. Has someone had one or know of their seaworthiness?

The Manitou started out as an old style long keel 27 footer. Canoe stern added and topsides raised slightly and it turned out at 32 feet. Interior is still that of a narrow 27 footer! They were sold as kits for home completion.

I have one , had it for about 8 years . They are solid in construction ,not fast but sail ok. Forget about even thinking of using reverse . The procedure for going backwards is as follows . Put into reverse gear , give big rev and take out of gear using momentum to keep going , get renders ready for impact . Not quite that bad ,but 8 years in I still wonder if I can reverse lol. ??
You live ON a manitou not IN , they are tiny inside . I was a live aboard for 4 years . Sailed up to the keppels and loved it.
Fit out varies from really rough to very nice , mine has gone from very nice to " in the process of renovating" .
Mine is ketch rigged ,which I love . I sail single handed most of the time so I find it easy to hoist mizzen and unfurl jib to get underway . Aft cabin is "cozy" but no head room . Main cabin is also "cozy" with limited headroom , mine has an extension over the companion way. They have problems with the aft bulkhead rotting out which is not that hard to fix , doing the rest of mine soon .
Would I get rid of it to get a "better" 32 foot boat . No way I love her with all her faults .

Similar style of yacht but a lot bigger hull, less overhangs, longer waterline relative to overall length etc. Centre cockpit mostly but the one in the above link was aft cockpit. Reminds a bit of the Colin Archer style but JB was no Colin Archer - albeit a gutsy single and short handed sailor in his day. It is probable that they were better built than the M32 also.

Thanks everyone for your comments and references. The boat we have now is 25' with low headroom, which gives me a sore back from bending, so the Manitou is off the list!

Great. Suggest tell us what height you are, and what you want to do with your upgraded yacht, so we can all comment on what yacht might suit. This will be a lot quicker zoomed in result to a yacht to suit you than "what do you think of this..."
