Last week I sailed the rugged South Coast of Kangaroo Island for the first time, as part of a clockwise circumnavigation. It is well worth the effort if the weather is right, as the scenery is absolutely stunning. We sailed from east to west. Our first day from Antechamber Bay to Vivonne Bay was gentle sailing in light swells. Our second day however revealed the Southern Ocean's true character with large swells and 25 knot winds - serious but fun sailing though.

Vol 2 Investogator Straight and Kangaroo Island.
Lee shore is seriously dangerous.
Lack of sheltered anchorage, big swell and freezing waters.
My admiration to you venture.

Wow, thats' serious stuff. I haven't been game enough yet, but I'm working my way up to it.

The key thing is to pick your weather. Our first day was hardly any different to a gentle Whitsunday sail. The second was certainly more serious, but we just kept sailing until we were on the sheltered side of the Island.
