Does any one know much about the Koala 24 ?
are we talking about the pedigree of its bigger sisters or just a trailer sailer.
the yacht builder is listed as Seaway yachts , any information on them .
Is the keel bolted or encapsulated? looks to be have sailed in Tasmania so I have no doubt it has seen some action and the Port looks to be Saint Helens , a very well loved and kept vessel.

This boat was for sale for many years, I think at St Helen's, essentially in the same condition.
I used to own the trailer sailor version. It was quite slippery in the water and was quite stable. Points extremely well, bit of handful in a following sea.

It was one of Professor Joubert's less successful designs. Designed as a quarter tonner it failed to be competitive amonst a whole lot of superb quarter tonners of the period. Eventually it came out as a fixed keel or lifting keel trailer sailer at the same time as a lot of better boats hit the market. From the designer of the Currawong and Brolga etc but just not as successful. As a 24 foot cruiser racer it was a nice little boat at the same time as the other quarter tonners of 25 and 26 foot that sold for the same money!

Ramona is spot on, one of a whole crop of small 1/4 tonners that were around. Koala 24, Tasman 26, Searle 25, Cavalier 26 and so on. They were quickly superseded by the trailer sailer genre of similar size. In fact I think the K24 had a trailerable version.I have done some sailwork on a Koala owned by yachting scribe of note from past years, Ed Featherston. He loves it and races/cruises regularly and finds it seaworthy and comfortable!

Not familiar with them but looks like it might have a big rig being both double spreader and masthead.

Not so sure about the outboard hanging so far off the rear with a raked stem and relatively pinched in stern.

Vang is nice as is interior condition. Given its designer it's probably quite sturdy.

Outboard that far out on the stern is useless in a seaway. Impossible to get at, and likely to pop out of the water and break the shear pin. Been there...
Maybe it has old diesel still fitted that can be restored?
