Well Seabreezers today was the day that my little sail around the world became an official world record attempt. I will aim to be the first boat in the 40 foot class to complete a Westbound Singlehanded RTW Circumnavigation. Departure date is 2 October 2016. Wish me luck

is is that west bound via the Southern Ocean? Sounds like a very serious challenge!

Good luck with the rest of the preparation, and the trip.

Wow, that's serious! All the best. Will follow your progress with interest. I remember when Pete Goss did his journey to Oz in The Spirit Of Mystery,
It re ignited my passion to get a wooden boat and go sailing and I'm sure your journey will likewise inspire many. Will you be setting up an AIS tracker on Google Earth or simmilar?

Andy, my best wishes too on such a capital A adventure.

I hear lately on the news of dozens of climbers, including teenagers, "conquering" Everest. You gotta smile at these journalists.

Same for the southern ocean - no need to "conquer" it - just make it through in one good piece. That's achievement enough.

Sounds like the man may have a few busy evenings in September then, no?

All the best Andy. A very significant endeavour to go the wrong way around.
Many would say it is the best way to go in an S&S34, one of the best pointing boats ever.

Thanks everyone for your best wishes. I will have a website up in September and will have a tracker on board so everyone can follow my progress. it will be a circumnavigation under the rules of the WSSRC so yep LMY via the Southern Ocean.
Two Dogs the local paper ran an article last week and there may be some more media later. Your right MB the boat goes well to windward so that should help.
Anyway I will keep you all updated as the time to leave draws closer.

Best wishes Andy. What an epic adventure.

Going westbound, Im guessing you'll be going up a bit in the Indian, Southern Atlantic and Southern Pacific? What's the rough routing? How far North do you think you'll need to go for more favourable winds? Where will you go up over equator? pacific?

Wow !!! that's truly a gutsy effort !! Fair winds Andy . And as mentioned earlier, and as you are aware the S&S will point up and travel to windward when ever you ask her to !!!! and she will LOVE IT !!!

Such a cool thing for you to even think of doing !!!!!!

I hope " we " as in us seabreezers can help you along the way some how , with some moral support like ...............KEEP GOING !!!!!

That's awesome. Wishing you fair winds. Might be best to still fit the inner stay though, just in case.

With the weather systems moving towards you, and you sailing towards them, I guess you'll be keeping a close eye on the weather. I'm not sure if it helps or not, but thought I'd mention this free weather routing program:

May I ask; what do you get for 1620 Pounds Sterling ?

Godspeed Andy, I think I can safely promise you'll have a bunch of like minded souls thinking of you when you're out there.
What about sponsorship, are you chasing any?

Hi guys thanks again for all the comments
The course is basically under Australia, Cape of Good Hope, North over the equator around Hierro Island (Canary Islands) under Cape Horn then home. I have a weather router to try and miss the very worst weather, but of course at 6 knots you can only do so much to get out of the way.
There is a big trade of between distance sailed and most favourable currents and wind so i don't plan to go too far North.
I am chasing sponsorship. So far Musto have come on board and B and G look promising for a radar and chat plotter.

Ha ha I don't know Wollemi. I guess they ratify the course and monitor the trip to ensure the rules are complied with.
