Garmin a generally a pretty good brand.
Does it come with all cables and transducer?
How much of the warranty is left to run?

Supposedly on special at $1800 here ... http://www.marineelectricalsydney.com.au/marine-electrical-product-details.asp?prodID=168

Johnny Appleseed has the later model for $1736 ... www.ja-gps.com.au/Garmin/gpsmap-751/

Not sure what comes with it or what the warranty situation is

It appears that it is no longer a current model with Garmin

At BCF or Whitworths check out the Lowrance Elite 7 plotter/sounder for $799. They are not touch screen (which is good), are menu driven and come with charts for Aus and NZ.

I made a phone call today and it does not come with a transducer so that would be another couple of hundred dollars

If anyone else is interested feel free to buy it as it is as I can't justify the cost for what I do with my boat and I am not sure that I could buy a interface cable to link it to my current suite of electronics

She is a oldie but a goodie

The problem is it is in the cabin and not easily visible from the helm so I normally set the alarm to go off at a couple of meters under the keel but you can't see if the bottom is trending up or down so one outside would be useful

Upstream of here the river is wide but shallow with a channel that is only marked for part of the way so if I had a sounder outside I might venture upstream more

Hi Loosechange

The seller said it was brand new unused in the box and he bought it a couple of months ago so I assume it would have everything to run it apart from the transducer

If anyone is interested in buying it, it is only about 20 mins away from me so I can have a look at it if need be

The interesting thing about the Huon is here at Port Huon and downstream of here there is probably 20 meters of water under the keel unless you are close to each river bank where as about 400 meters upstream if you dont stay in the narrow partially marked channel you run the risk of running aground

In the 1970's when they were still exporting apples overseas they used to have ships like these on either side of the jetty
