Hi everyone

I've been reading on the forum for a few years as I moved towards yacht ownership. Have just pulled the trigger on an old girl - 1959 Cutter rigged centre cockpit Lidgard 35 (nz kauri) in Port Hacking (where she will be staying). Just went through the first major haul out and annual maintenance - which was a learning experience. This forum's been super helpful in me narrowing down what I thought was right for our plans. Looking forward to seeing you on the water. [pic is from several years back the last time she was up north]

Congratulations.
I nearly bought a lidgard a few years ago, got outbid in the giddy excitement of boat buying mid pandemic.

Never mind I ended up with a centre cockpit cutter made from NZ kauri just a different designer.

How was your built, where was she built, do you know much about her history?

We need to be good custodians of our boats, I think yachts made from NZ kauri are a thing of the past and they should out last us. Anyway congrats again and share any other info on her you have.

Absolute pearler, congrats. Probably built at Roy Lidgard's Auckland yard? Very long waterline for a 1959 yacht - shades of Myth of Malham.

Probably a bit early for John to be the designer -

Look fwd to more photos and details including on the slips - you need a certain number of posts here to include photos don't know how many.

Thanks Camm - I should know more of her original history shortly. The family that has held her for most of her life (2nd owners, I'm the 4th I believe) still live in the area and I'm due to meet them. They did a lap and a half with her and have the original journal and a bit of paperwork so I'm hopeful that will reveal a few things. There are plaques inside from cya (Aukland) and Auckland to Fiji races back in the 60's. I agree it's more of a custodian feeling and the aim is to enjoy her and then pass her on to the next person in better condition.

Thanks mate - here's another pic while up on the slip about a month ago (lets see if me posting gets over the pics threshold).

Thanks also for the nz library link...I've been searching for information...that might be a source.

Certainly will - this summer will mostly be spent in the hacking with a few day hops. I'll be active on the 'what have you done with your boat today' thread. Thanks for the 'nice boat'.

Gav were you out sailing last Sunday before anchoring at Jibbon with a fishing line in the water?

Small world - yes, first day out after the slip work. What were you on?

I saw you sailing when I was heading out, you turned around and headed back in before me and by the time I got back into Port Hacking you were anchored at Jibbon. I sailed past your boat and said hello. I was on my Cavalier 28. You've got yourself a lovely boat.

Nice - great to see you (& thanks for the hi). It wasn't until you were coming towards us that we realised we'd left that line out. Was a beautiful day for it...nice gap in the many rainy days.
