I'm wondering if anyone has been able to obtain basic liability insurance without a current survey?

I'm considering taking on a Nicholson 32 built in 1970, but the insurers that I have contacted want a current (less than 12 months old ) out of water survey and hull photos.

All I'm chasing is a liability policy while shes moored (swing mooring, mary river Queensland) until I can get her on my local slip in March.

Anyone here have any leads?

Pantaenius. They are usually happy with a couple of photos for 3rd party public liability. Ps if it's ferro she probably got a epoxy glass sheathing so call it composite and all will be good

+1 for Pantaenius for 3rd Party/Liability - no survey and accepted by Boatyard for Slipping.

Tudor Insurance. A broker can be very helpful if you're being rejected by merciless online quotes.

Not all insurance companies resell to brokers. Ie my previously suggested insurer

I worked in insurance in a consulting capacity. Remember the premium and willingness to take it is not at all relevant to their willingness to pay when you claim. Claim payment is the key insurance purchase criteria.

I use New Wave for third party cover. They do cover moored yachts in most places. They provide all the paperwork you need to use slips and marinas etc.

As per Woko, Pantaenius and tell them you have a Trek Transponder monitoring your boat, especially bilge. On that basis I got my 1989 boat insured on a swing mooring with no survey. Pantaenius actually know what a boat is compared to many of the call centre type insurers.

I don't have any experience with New Wave regarding claims however My 1985 boat has been insured with them full comprehensive for eight years and it was only this year they advised I will need a condition report next year . As it was I paid the premium on the 21st. Jan. then sold the boat on the 31 st advising New Wave . I received a full refund within 24 hrs after confirming it was me .

I'm with New Wave for liability without a current survey. I had one done years ago and had comprehensive with them but I'm waiting for a part to come from the US before slipping and surveyingng for new comprehensive. No claims experience but in my very limited personal experience it depends on the surveyor/assessor and if you have a reasonable case other insurers pay out if you check the law properly and tell them you are off to the ombudsman if necessary. I've only ever had one issue
