Just got my renewal from Club Marine, last year was $617 this year over $703
Seems a very big increase to me.
Any suggestions for a decent alternative for my 35 year old Cavalier?

Could try anchorage marine underwriting at north sydney.

New Wave Marine who we use are very easy to deal with on line but as per all prior insurance posts here it depends on what you want out of a policy. If our rig goes over the side we don't get a new replacement rig - rather the $s for what we put in the proposal form that the rig is worth as a proportion of the total boats current value - so the total of hull, rig, sails, motor, accessories. Our 30 foot yacht is 1985 build and races every Sat, is very well maintained, but what we would get for a rig replacement is probably 1/3 of the new rig value.

Hi Cockpit

Just be aware that if you change insurance companies they may need a out of water survey that will add to the cost

We pay around $1000 a year for a 1984 28 footer on a swing mooring in Tassie with QBE so your quote seems pretty good to me

The trouble with insurance companies is you don't know how good they are until you need to make a claim

I had a claim with Club Marine, I was unlucky to get caught in some wild weather, possibly related to the fires, with a resulting strong and sudden wind shift causing a violent gybe. A new boom latter and my premium was only marginally more than last year. And the claim was handled very well I thought! cheers Richard

Thanks guys, I hadn't thought about maybe needing another survey...
I might try a couple more quotes but it seems like it may be cheaper and easier to stay with CM.

Try Tudor Insurance,
No out of water survey, generally a condition report will get you over the line. Great service.

I have just put two boats with RACQ which in underwritten by Tokio
very good to deal with one phone call and an email
it was a new policy so I had the survey
for one boat the nautilus quote was $1400 and RACQ was $438
Clearly nautilus did not want the business or the underwriting guidelines are very narrow
As the last boat comes up for renewal I will change it as well when I get a survey
see what happens

I am also with Club Marine. I have made an 'at fault' claim with them 2 years ago, no problems and the premium only went up by CPI.

Some of the reasons for increases may relate to things such as swing moorings (not necessarily yours, but the ones around you), local thefts and problems relating boats of the same type and vintage as yours.
