Hello John
Seeing as no responses to you as yet..............I respond as below hopefully not lecturing or hectoring or worse.............
But before the below text see at this link prior comms on wind insts which you would be aware of - I posted some comments as did you..........
www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Sailing/General/Garmin-GNX-Wireless-Wind-Pack---any-good-?page=1#25So as regards your post above I asked our on board "spark" who responded - abridged version as below trust it might be of use. Lightning fried one of our Raymarine hull transmitters
"
I spoke to these guys during my research. They were also the ones who sold me the reconditioned Raymarine Hull Transmitter when the previous one got fried by the apparent lightning strike.
www.aquatronics.com.au/ You could also suggest he look at the Yacht Devices website (I had email correspondence with one of their tech guys, who was also very helpful:
www.yachtd.com/).
Tell him to consider getting data to tablets/PCs rather than being locked in to proprietary display units.
I would also suggest he talk to the blokes at 2dogsmarine
2dogsmarine.com.au/products/nmea-2000-wi-fi-gateway-ydwg-02r?_pos=1&_sid=8e4f98b30&_ss=r $379
- suggest he do some research on what he wants first, so he knows what he is talking about when he approaches these guys. The response to my initial email query to 2dogs was incorrect, until I queried it and he came back and confirmed my analysis. He was very helpful to talk to after that!

It is realised that 2dogsmarine are at Airlie Beach - but they probably are working with companies in Sydney who they can recommend.........
These 2 companies look capable but we haven't had experience with them
