I'm still looking for a bigger boat but many that I like are far far away.
So I'm interested to know if I WAS to buy a boat in WA, or SA or Vic or even Langkawi Malaysia, what are the sail times and best seasons back to Qld Sunny Coast??
And also the chance of getting experienced crew to come with me (not very experienced). Would the cost of crew be expensive or are there people who would do it just for the adventure with food etc and maybe a bonus included? Or is that just wishful thinking...?
Or is the whole idea of buying anything from further afield than the east coast just plain silly...

Lots of boats on the eastern seaboard to choose from surely. Langkawi is like in a 'galaxy, far,far away' compared to the logistics of the other options. Go local, unless you like an adventure...but who's into that stuff these days.

From WA around the bottom over summer or over the top during winter. Would expect 3-4 months at least either way.

Have you looked at the cost of trucking? I received a quote last year to transport a 37ft yacht from Brisbane to Perth around $25k.

Most of the good larger boats are already in Queensland.

Bought in Mololabah, live in Sydney. Took it slow, 3+ months, to bring it home but it was summer! Who cares, l had time in abundance.

For busy people or newbies, buy close to home. It is a pain to hassle with crew, transportation and the better boat you missed is just around the next bay, anyway.
Take time, buy with a cool head.

I actually don't mind the idea of a 2 or 3 month adventure trip as long as there were good places along the way to stop and see and it's not just a fast passage...
There is also the very slight possibility that I might be able to take a year or so out which is why the Langkawi idea is there as I would want to spend some time there first.
If I did take a year out the idea of buying a boat from the US and sailing back here slowly also sounds good
Unfortunately my budget is somewhat limited which is why I can't seem to find my boat nearer but I am in no great hurry...

Just make sure you know all the written and unwritten rules buying a foreign boat!!!

Besides of foreign registered, and your finances being as you mentioned, limited, you might encounter costs you might not be able to meet. Be very very careful! A pre-buy inspection is a must and that is extra bucks too.

I've just walked away from a protracted, long-distance purchase of a boat. I'm in Brisbane. The boat is in Sydney.

I am out of pocket significantly. Costs mount up...and quickly!! I am emotionally bruised. I am disappointed. I have lost a lot of faith in humanity but gained some as well.

However!!!! I am very fortunate!! Morning Bird very kindly gave up his time to meet me and provide an impartial and knowledgeable view of the boat. Had he not been there, I am certain I would have given in to the bullying and bought a boat which may have killed me on the passage to Brisbane.

Knowing what I know now, unless you have a 'scout' at the coalface who you are familiar enough with to bend on for their time, experience, knowledge and effort, I wouldn't recommend buying long-distance.
