Gee aus, being a bit of a realist it might be better if they write her off and pay you out. If that structural damage is as bad as it appears, and I recognise it may not be, would you trust her integrity in a big blow?
I sincerely hope you get her somewhere safe to assess the damage and get the best result.

Aus mine was damaged in the storms here last April. I was on a Comercial mooring. Another boat also on a Comercial mooring dragged his mooring hooked on to mine and they spent the night bashing against each other. Both insured with club marine results were no negligence on part of the marina we both had to pay our own excess and i have also lost some of my no claim rating. It is classed as an act of god freak occurrence.

Been out to her today found a major crack on the starboard side now joining up with bulkhead crack.

he roof of cabin panels arent fitting quite right and the chart table lid will not open it is hitting on the side i think the boat may have been twisted when masters 34 landed on the top of her.

Really unfortunate ...at least you're insured. Hope that all works out for you. New boat I'd say...bummer as you probably love her.

Is she foam core Aus? That pic appears to be a complete de-lamination of the deck too hull chopstrand tagging. Going by pics I couldn't say she's a write off but it maybe easer if this is the case and if the insurance surveyor recommends this after inspection.
My Adams was written off due to fire and then re-built by a new owner. Anything is possible. Good luck and stay positive.

hi guys no shes not foam core the crack is a delamination of the solid glass from one side of the boat to the other but at this stage it is only on the inside of the cab and small cracking on exterior not sure if its as bad as it looks but when i get boat out for inspection will know more.
At what point would the boat be written off

A friend had a Defiance lose the rig just recently. The damage looked superficial (apart from a missing rig) , but was structural around the chainplates and deck fittings. I never saw it up close, but the boat looks 99% fine from the outside. It was assessed, and the repair quote was about the same as the insured value. The insurance company offered a payout, which the owners took and sadly walked away from the boat. The boat is still on a mooring and will probably go to an insurer's auction shortly. This was a boat in otherwise good condition, and it just looks like it has no rig.

I'm not sure Aus if I'd ever think the boat was the same again, even if they did a good repair, it looks pretty extensive to my untrained eye.
It's probably not what you want to hear, but I think if I was in your unenviable position, I would probably take the insurance payout and move on.

I hope there's a bright side, and in 6 months you have found an even better boat, if that's what you choose to do.

I, with braking heart for an old friend, and part of my life, would go for a pay out. No doubt.

New boat, new challenge, new life...keeps us alive.

At some point north of 50% of the boats value. Some companies are at 50% others may be as much as 75% of insured value. If you get really lucky it may be under 50% and you might be able to buy her back and repair it yourself. If you were so inclined.

Just want to wish you well with the inspection, Aus. Hopefully it's not as bad as it looks from the photos, and you can get her back to the way she was before the accident, without to much hassle. If not next boat call "Warbitch"

Good luck, AUS. I had to go through the "write off or repair" issue a while back and chose the repair. It's not fun.

I just got down to check my boat; she's 120km away but moored next to a mate's so I knew I would have had a call if she had major problems. She lost a corner of the cover and took some water from deck leaks I still haven't fixed, but is basically all fine.
