They are only just catching up. About 15 years ago, I had a go at Frank Bethwaites indoor sailing simulator. Essentially a bathtub with a sail and hydraulic rams to pitch and roll. A couple of screens mounted around the front and the program simulated a 29er complete with launching and retrieving a spinnaker (virtually).
Frank was just so far ahead of the rest of the world.

I got to play in a F111 simulator/test bed at Amberley once. The hydraulics ran at something like 2000psi, so when you swept the wings back the entire mockup box section airframe would almost jump off the floor. Scared the %$#@ out of me.

I regularly race my old pc game Virtual Skipper 5. I have about 30 different boats from Hydrofoil moths to tp52's. Helps me practice race strategy and fleet positioning. My old man Ramona goes sailing during the week but its crap on weekends. Plus it keeps me off the streets at night..

Isn't it more like standing in a cold shower, ripping up hundred dollar bills?
