Is that catamaran swinging on 24mm silver rope? Expensive chain and swivel.
Correct. Hasn't had any issues thus far. Most of the similar sized vessels around seem to be on rope.
Today there were 50kph gusts and this little mono broke her mooring and got smashed pretty hard against the rocks. (left of picture)
The water police had to also to tow clear another yacht ( 30 footer?) which looked to be dragging towards the same spot. (right of picture)
I felt glad mine was just serviced, but I lowered the prop into the water and warmed up the engine anyway
Anyone with boats in and around the middle harbour area have any reccomendations for mooring contractors. No one seems to particlarly mention contractors in the forum. Is that a no no here. Am new to boating and the forum so not sure of the do's and dont's.

I've used Tim Gordge, who is local, for years. Great service and gives you a reminder when servicing is due.
SHM you sound like you provide a really top quality product !!!! Do you guarantee your product ?

Hi SHM
Just wondering if you provide before & after pics/video of the service? I use a diver/hull cleaner that puts a short vid of the job on their YouTube channel. It's a nice way to see the state of the hull/mooring and gives me confidence that it was actually carried out and to "My" boat.
Cheers

I recently paid $242 for a straight service / inspection on a 12 month old mooring.
I was told $220. Obviously they then added the GST!
No record of condition of the mooring. Just an invoice. Not professional in my opinion.
I had a bloke do a scrub for around $100 and he text me pictures and a report on the condition of the existing antifoul and hull from his obversations.
Were you happy with the $100 job?
Sorry Bundeenaboy. Didn't see this.
Yes, very happy.
Hi all
In Tasmania M.A.S.T stipulate that moorings should be lifted and inspected every at least every 2 years
I generally have both of mine done every 18 months or so and Russell and Lynn from Southern Mooring Services 0457811070 that do mine are a pleasure to deal with
They have a well equipped boat and like the owner of the mooring to be present and when the mooring is lifted, cleaned and inspected so if they see something that they believe needs to be replaced they explain why and get the go ahead to do it
I have total faith in them and it is nice to know that the mooring is not going to let go when it is blowing a gale
Regards Don
I would have an issue with the "should be lifted" bit. I get my mooring serviced by a mooring contractor that dives it every year and has done for the last 18 years. He can still see all the important bits but over the years it's sunken nicely into the mud for an even more secure anchorage. I think pulling it up now would be detrimental to it's efficiency.
I guess saying that though, "should" is a suggestion so "should be lifted and inspected" is different to MUST be lifted and inspected...

Hi Jethrow
This is from the M,A.S.T website and it seems pretty clear cut
Maintenance
Wear and tear can cause moorings to deteriorate very quickly. They can be moved out of position by severe weather and corrosion and abrasion can reduce the condition of the mooring significantly.
Mooring permit holders are required to maintain their moorings in the appointed place and in good order and condition and have the mooring lifted and inspected at least once every two years. Records should be kept by the owner.

I googled mooring contractors, Sydney Harbour Marine had the best google reviews by far, couldn't be happier, Sam & Ian were very pleasant to deal with, photo's, itemised invoice, pay online. too easy.
highly recommend them
