How often should I disconnect the seacock and let pump suck some vinegar into the block to clean salt deposits on my YSE8 beast?

I did mine once.
I'd say, probably you'd need to do it once every 2 or 5 years. It will not be very often that you would open up the engine and see calcium deposits, so it is guesswork.

Remove the anode every year ( haulout).
Shine a flashlight into the block though the anode port and visually inspect interior of block.
Calcium can be covered with a light red oxide, but a dig with a screwdriver will show you the situation.
That will tell you if you need to descale.

Descaling is done when needed , not to a timetable.
I reckon 10 years would not be unreasonable for a well run YSE.
My spare engine is 30 years old, never been descaled. A few lumps of oxide , but no calcium to speak of.

Depends on how often you run the engine and how long for. Usually gets done when you notice the engine getting hot. For my raw water cooled Volvo in my last boat that was used on a weekly basis that was about 2 years. The calcium build up will usually be around the thermostat.

Just a thought Serb.
YSE engines do not have an overheat alarm or warning light.
You can get a hand held infra red sensor to keep an eye on it.
A normal old temp gauge or a gauge with a built in alarm.

Then you will know when to descale and have an alarm in case a hose splits, a hose clamp gives way. the water filter gets blocked (plastic bags), the impeller disintegrates, the belt breaks or slips.

I've fitted engine watchdogs to my yachts and 4WD's for the past 10-15 years. They're great early warning systems.

I have installed a small sensor which is connected with wire to the lcd display. It shows temperature. It fits well in the small while in the engine block. Excellent to monitor the temp of the engine block.

That's the easiest way. I bought 5 of the LCD gauges that I was going to attach to the usual spots but never got around to it. Instead I bought a mechanical temperature gauge and mounted it on the main bulkhead. These cheap gauges are ideal. Blu-tack one probe to the face of the saltwater intake pump, one to the rubber hose next to the exhaust and anywhere else you like. The batteries last about 5 years. Taped to the bronze skin fitting of the saltwater intake you will be able to monitor the seawater temperature. I used them for years on my fishing vessel to monitor seawater temperature which was vital for tuna fishing.
Water telltale in the cockpit floor is still the best way. When the flow stops and you have steam you have a problem.

They look convenient but have a max temp of 70 degrees C, so limited in their use to monitor ever heating. The engine guard has temp parameter adjustment and a warning alarm when max temp is exceeded.

Not only temp Gary, even the base model can be used as low oil pressure alarm as well, just hook it up to the warning light sender.
