I would like to ask how to value your boat if you have upgraded every thing always done the maintenance and upkeek.
Do you use what you paid for it or market value ad advised by the Broker?

Under which of the following suits you best.
What it cost you (as in what you told the Misses)
What it cost you (as in what it has truly cost)
What an insurance company will cover it for.
What it would cost you to replace.
What a broker reckons its worth in the market (minus 10 to 15%)
What you would like to sell it for.
What you think someone might pay for it.
What will some one actually pay for it.

Put a $ value to each of the above and re post.

"How do you value your boat?" = how much joy it brings you.

One way is to make a list of all boats for sale of the same design, compare yours to them, condition etc and price accordingly.

Hi Whiteout this is assuming you are wanting to know its worth to sell.
I would say that deep down you already know what your boat is worth.
I would add 15% to this figure for the beat you down factor then have a bottom dollar in mind and no less.
Ultimately its worth what some one will pay for it but keep expectations high you can always come down and a beautifully cared for boat like yours will always demand a premium price

When I want to sell a boat I asked a broker for an opinion, which hopefully ties in with my own thoughts. Then I add around 20% and put in on the market. Then for say a $50k / 34ft yacht start dropping $2-5k every three months. You will eventually identify the "value" that someone is prepared to pay. This could be way less than what you think, easily $15-20k less than the original $50k asking price in the above example. Most upgrades are only relevant in comparing to other boats on the market. Actual "additional" value for an upgrade might be 10-20%, however it could be nil if the next owner does not care about this feature.

Last year I was watching a very nice Nordic 40 that came on the market for around $190k. Was in very good condition with every upgrade imaginable. Last time I saw it advertised was $90k and I assume it sold for around $70-80k, ie over $100k less than the original asking price. Definitely a buyers market for yachts.

The other thing you have to consider is how quick you want to get rid of it. If it takes a year to sell it's another $10k out of your pocket in pen fees / insurance. Drop that off your price and your boat sells fast. Mine sold in 3 days. Good deal for me and great deal for the buyer.
I still regret selling her to this day.
