Easy to capsize a 12m yacht, just take it into 12m waves for a while at night

I'll put more effort into securing covers if I ever go seriously offshore again.

Or go beam on with a breaking wave, and the danger zone for capsizing drops to 30% of hull length.

The yacht Supertramp - steel Spencer 40 IIRC - coming into Apollo Bay about 2001. Survived OK!
