My daughter is based in Grafton and is getting settled there.
I expect to sail north probably September onwards.

Depends on your mast height. Check the height of the power lines just downstream of Grafton. From memory, around 17m. If you are that high, it's possible to anchor and take a fairly long dinghy trip to town.
Last time I was there with 11m mast, we anchored just down stream of Grafton bridge.
With a power boat, you can anchor just off the town centre.
Its a great trip up the river. Hope to do it again one day.

Our yacht has been under the cable just before Grafton with mast 20 mtrs airdraft a couple of tomes. We kept very close to the northern bank, OK depth close in. We got good advice from the camping store at Maclean. Check with them. We also had a yacht in front of us and behind eyeballing as well that we had reasonable clearance. The sign does say maximum airdraft of about 17 mtrs though!

And don't forget you have to arrange for the opening of the old Harwood bridge for you

Not that often we get to sing the praises of a lowly TS so
If you can get up the clarence and under the bridges you can buy a meal at The Crown and Robinson Hotel North Grafton you are entitled to overnight berth on their jetty as we did back in 2016.
Recently found out that some amazing river scenery is available up stream from there also and if available a tender excursion even further lies a geological hidden gem.
At the time we did the clarence at the end of the first day while at the Mclean pub for a meal news broke of an expected east coast low event to impact on the region so decided to high tale it to grafton and retrieve car and trailer from Yamba and get out of the river ASAP.
What was planned to be a week on the clarence shortened to 48 hours.
While on the subject of clarence river pub crawls take note that at the time of our cruise The Lawrence pub was refuted to be the best but unfortunately it was not open on the day we went past , so pays to check and plan well ahead.
Would most definitely like to get back and complete the mission.

I sailed up in 2015 and was surprised at the depth of the Clarence. Also had massive rains at the time and stayed on the Maclean wharf for a few days while the Brunswick River reached 10 metre flood. Sailed upstream and the Clarence was only up a metre or so but brown with a heap of debris. Never once concerned of our safety.
