Did you have to pay to do that or did you just print off a screen dump?

On our trip up from Lake Macquarie to Bundaberg we had paper charts to cover the trip but almost all of our navigation was done with the Navionics mobile app on a couple of smart phones and a tablet with some back up using a Garmin portable chart plotter.

We also had a very good route plan with printed off strip maps from Quick Charts. We found using Navionics to be quite excellent.

Has anyone used the C-Map Plan2Nav app and if so, what did you think of it?

There have been a lot of posts on the PBO forums in the last few weeks in Britain about the navionics on phones etc. Mostly to do with lack of chart detail in the new stuff. Also not operating on the new systems in new phones. Just something to keep an eye on.

I figure out, the cruise of Second Wind was from any aspect seriously overkill .

Jeppesen charts, famous aeronautical charts, now marine too.
I tested app, and removed, unless you pay, you get bugger all.

Not really. We had a good compass but could not read it at night as it was not lit. We tried tiny cyalume sticks, but no good. I have since lit the compass with a small "wheat seed" bulb from Jaycars.

The screens on the smart phones and tablet (with Navionics which does not come with a night time palette ) were too bright for the helmsman to use so the method was for the navigator below to declare on or off course and when on course the helmsman had to pick a star to steer by.

What with haze and sea mist, he had to pick an elevated star and keep it within the triangle of the mast, cap shroud and spreader.

It worked.

Our route took us through some fairly close waters so at night there would be two on deck alternating on the helm every couple of hours and the other resting below for six hours. Not a bad watch system for a long continuous journey.

You need little things, like that. /no lit compass /
Sailing day will be remembered forever.
I nearly forgot the most, no event ones.

List of navigation aids on board was half a page long
and you telling us " we use stars " ....love that....

one day, waiting for weather window on SecWind,
you should write little book, and squeeze in more
spicier stories even from the past.

Didn't realise none of those, have no night mode.
It's time to instal LED to my compass, had the same trouble
with no light....and ....no stars....fog.

There is always something to learn when you are on the water.

Anybody that reckons they know it all is headed for a disaster.

Back on topic:- The Navionics web app. Is it like a passage planning tool??

It is not possible to use it on a laptop with a GPS input for real time navigation is it??

Cisco it would appear to be a very basic planning tool, using the measuring tool I can only ever get one straight line, so point to point but not A to B where A and B represent the entire trip.

As it is only a web page and not a program there is no way to integrate a GPS into it, so the answer is no, you can't real time navigate with it. Plus if it were possibly to navigate with it you would then be incurring data charges assuming you can get a connection where ever you happened to be.

I use it to put waypoints & routes onto my Raymarine chartplotter.

I save the info to a card then put the card in my plotter & retrieve the info.

Much easier to do on my PC, at home, with a big screen than do it on the small chart plotter screen - with my eyes anyway!!

No relation to GPS position even when buil in.GPS......... but
I would not gamble on anything what is not offline software.
very bad experience with network dependency,
