Talk about Halvorsen 30 has me seeking advice and info regarding my recent purchase of a pretty well preserved Halvorsen Hood 25
there is a dearth of info regarding these apparently. I'm not talking Halvorsen generally but specifically this little yacht which seems to have had a limited run back in early to mid 80's.
I believe they were made in Mona Vale but have no idea how they came to be a Halvorsen Hood 25 which as an aside is causing me difficulty with insurance since that name cannot be found apparently on the Club Marine Insurance data base and I am being required, essentially, to verify that such a boat exists, and jump through a few extra hoops.

That aside, I really would like to investigate the history and background of this vessel. and though I have been advised to simply insure it as a Hood 25, I'm not sure there was such a boat. My recent purchase is named Vamos. Currently blue in colour though from rego history started it's live white, Very competent and so far sturdy.

Would be very happy to hear from anyone who has background etc about the Halvorsen Hood 25.

Even though I was very familiar with Hoods and my father had one I always knew what I think is the yacht you are talking about as a Halvorsen 25. Certainly not a Hood 25 or a Halvorsen Hood 25. That is not to say Hood did not have a hand in the design. Never was a boat known by that name to my knowledge.
I did notice there was one in Crystal Bay at the bottom of Pittwater opposite the Pittwater Aquatic Club in recent years although if you have just purchased one perhaps it was that one.

Yes Halvorsen Hood 25. Sailed against one in the JOG series out of the harbour early 80s. Top yacht. Designed by Warwick Hood and built in Mona Vale. See links below. Would have benefited from a bigger fractional rig with longer boom as long as the balance was adjusted accordingly. Also better cabin shape - less wedge shape so that the "headroom" - realise it wouldn't have headroom but whatever headroom it had at the bottom of the companionway steps was carried further forward aka J/109. Suggest give most or all of the below links to Club Marine and tell them to wake up - else go to Anchorage Marine or New Wave Marine and insure.

Not trying to thread drift but Hood's Styx looked like a stretched HH25 and went like fertiliser off a shovel. When I first saw it on the slips with open mouth the chippy there said to me - "who do you think designed it" - my answer "no idea please advise"............

I was always impressed by the Hood 25 and aspired to owning one in the 1980's. They were a lot more expensive than all the other 24-25 footers sold at the time and were aimed at the classy end of the market.

+ for Insurance try Pantaenius,including recent photos .
