Seems the market is being flooded with so called good quality 316 stainless steel wire which shows signs of corrosion in just a few years.
it's bad enough the insurance companies are now wanting proof of rigging every 8 years,
are there any good quality companies here in Australia that certifies 316 wire and breaking strain ?

I replaced my safety lines with wire from Mr Stainless at Drummoyne and Bunnings 5 years ago. The Mr Stainless wire is still fine. The Bunnings wire is very rusty. If Mr Stainless wire is the same supplier and quality as back then it seems fine.

I got 316 3.2mm 1x19 and 7x7 wire rope from this company a few months ago for lifelines on a small yacht. An AISI mill certificate (assume photocopy of the original which is supplied with the full drum) can be supplied for a small extra cost. Excellent company to deal with and very good prices. No rust signs at all yet - albeit only a few months. I had forgotten how stiff the 1x19 is - had a real battle with the manual swaging but this is on me not the wire. A spray and scotchbrite clean of CorrosionX every quarter or 1/2 year is a good idea, also to get the jet landing flight path debris off.

I can see a resurgence of gal if you have to ditch your stainless every 8 years now.
On what engineering advice do these money grabbers make these policies ?

At replacement every 8 years (first time of have heard of that timeframe) it is already disposable.
Rope?
How about Dyneema?
I wonder how insurance companies would look at that option with almost no historical engineering information to judge (assess) from?

I had images of the old hemp ropes supporting a rig. Bring back bitumen and canvas as well and let the insurance companies debate that. Lloyds used to insure it so maybe a precedent has been set

And why would anyone trust a Temu Chandlery shop for wire?

Places like Nobles and other rigging business that certify and test can supply certified 316, dyform or whatever you want? They also carry NATA certification. I would advise you to ask for quote since they the type of business that wants to price gouge you if you walk up to their sales counter. Deal via phone or email and ask for a better price.
