Fidelis is currently at the marina down the road after competing in the Sydney Hobart and i am amazed at the size of the spinnaker poles on her deck

I paced it out and reckon the poles are around 7.5 meters long and about 200 mm in diameter

Just wondering if any of the forum members have sailed on a boat like this and what it is like gybing the spinnaker

I assume it has lazy sheets that would make it a bit easier but i imagine it is still hard work with gear this size

Regards Don

I can't answer your questions Don but Nigel Stoke, the owner of Fidelis, is the driving force behind the Lord Howe BBQ Rally. FIDELIS is one beautiful Yacht, the crew and skipper have sailed her together for many many years and push her hard, while having roast dinners and formal dining. A wonderful boat and crew.

By the setup on the mast (no track) I'm guessing twin pole gybes? Cause there is no way you'd want to end for end those suckers!!!

Hi Lydia

Is Jimmi the magician our sometimes crew member?

She is a certainly an impressive looking boat

Do you know if she at the Kermandie so they can repair the boom or was it a planned stop

You'd probably just dip pole them. It's not hard. The biggest boat I've raced as bow on was a 12 Metre which had roughly the same size rig, and it's essentially just like gybing many 37 footers.

Don, no Jimmi Doherty, although James just did a few deliveries last year with Mr Jimmi.
For those who don't know Mr Jimmi, he is actually a magician and made his living as a performing artist.
Sailing wise no one in Australia would do more deliveries.
Maybe Peter Mounsey did once. (also good to do deliveries with)
Jimmi holds the record for most Osaka races including one with a Japanese guy that spoke no English and Jimmi spoke no Japanese then.
Think Jimmi has brought Fidelis from Noumea twice solo and New Zealand twice solo.
Last delivery for me on Fidelis was a mid winter delivery from up north to Sydney.
Great trip, timing perfect, white out up the harbour and so windy at RSYS we went over to CYCA for the night to get into the lee.
