Hi all,
I recently replaced the lights mounted on my mast and have a wiring question regarding how i connect the new wires to the old at the base of the mast.

I installed a new combination steaming light / deck light which replaces an old steaming light and separate deck light.


The old steaming light has a positive and negative running from the switch panel.
The old deck light has a positive and negative running from the switch panel.

So that's 4 wires (2 x positive and 2 x negative)

The new combo deck / steaming light however has 3 wires: Negative (white), Steam (yellow) and Deck (brown).
So that gives me 4 wires coming from the switch panel to connect to 3 wires coming from the new light.
Am I correct in thinking that I should be connecting the positive wire from the old steaming light to the yellow wire, the positive wire from the old deck light to the brown wire and the two negative wires (or is it just one) from the old deck and old steaming lights to the white wire?

My knowledge of electrical systems is pretty limited so I would appreciate your input.

I sent you PM for the 12v doctors book.
Normally you could combine 2 of the wires, either positive or negative, with a switch on the return 'line'.
Usually there is a slightly fancy switch scheme so that you can't have both these lights on at once, i.e. turning the steamer on, turns the masthead white one off.

There is a switch for each of the old lights so I don't think i need to add another one. Just need to work out which ones I need to connect to the new light.
