Hi all, is any one familiar with the Duncanson 37? Thinking of buying one the model im looking at is a centre cockpit ketch. Hard to find info on them. Do they have keel bolts ? Any thing i have to watch out for? I notice it has an offset prop shaft, is that a problem.

One of our forum members used to have one and he spoke highly of them. Unfortunately he took his ball and went home! I see one occasionally on the slips here. They are a bit narrow for their length but that was the norm years ago. I can not remember if they are encapsulated keel or not. The offset prop shaft would make it much cheaper and easier to pull the shaft.

This thread on another forum includes comment on the same boat by same skipper, and indicates keel bolts were part of the design.

See 60% the way down here comments on keel bolt re-torquing - not to be done without a lot of prior preparations else could gall the threads and that will mean new keel bolts.

Thanks Romona and R13 Good point about offset shaft being cheaper to work on. I've had a chat with owner who's had boat for a year but doesn't know if it has keel bolts or not, he reckons he couldn't find any.

Southace's post above in r13's link certainly mentions keel bolts. There is a photo of the exterior and the lead is clearly visible.

I have had my aft cockpit sloop rigged dunc. 37 for 40years of cruising and offshore ocean racing including Hobarts small amount of general maintenance and still going strong

Duncanson 37's have a bolted keel......but they have a stubbie keel molded to the hull where the ballast is attached...pretty strong...but check the skeg to see if is not flexing too much...
