Talking with my cousin who took his 4wd up to DI Pt and he drove over the isthmus and saw the lagoon full of catermarans.
Looks like a nice place to hole up if you have shoal draught.

Yep. We stopped there one night many years ago in a Swarbrick S111. A change was coming through with strongish southerlies forecast so we dropped anchor at dusk. It was a good bolt hole to escape the southerlies but we did roll like a bastard.

Yeah i saw that as well in a simon carter video. I think it may have changed since you were there MorningBird, it looks almost completely protected now.

I don't recall that sandbar coming out of the point into the bay. As I recall we were anchored about where the end of the sandbar is, maybe a bit towards the point. It was 2005 or thereabouts. We had done one leg from Mackay to Bundy for a part crew change and then had come outside Fraser Island heading for Manly.

Amazing how the swell turns corners and gets you, you try to get in as far as your draft allows but it makes it worse.

I recall a mate who was holed up there for a few days and to counter the roll he told me he rigged an anchor bridle, so he was effectively anchored from the beam and faceing the swell

I can remember VMR Tin Can Bay bravely racing out there to rescue someone and it was so rough they had to camp out there for days with very little supplies

At present draft up to around 1.5 can safely anchor inside, larger drafts can get in at the entrance.

Looks like plenty of room to go between it and D.I. Pt.

There were about 18 boats in there a week ago.

It wasn't like that in 2005. No sandbar exposed with a protected anchorage. How deep is it in there?
