I just picked up the teak window shutters from e bay and on the way home Donk I had this idea


This is a photo of my H28 forward cabin door with two teak window shutters behind them
If they were cut down to the door size and hinged on each window shutter you have a double swing door

visualize that



I think you can buy some hinges with a lock out so if you wanted the doors to stay open you can other than that add a door catch both sides
I this a silly idea or not
Would that help with the problem taking sails form the forward cabin?? with the existing door

The only concern I have with the split doors is that because you will have hinges on both sides you will effectively be narrowing the opening by the thickness of the hinges and if your H28 is the same as my Sailmaster the opening isn't all that wide to start with

if I had my choice I would swing a single door into the main cabin because I reckon the door would be closed most of the time

The only time I imagine it would be open is if you are getting stuff out of the front or sitting on the toilet and want it open

II can't really see too much advantage in splitting the door unless there is not enough room to swing a single door rearward

if it was mine I would make it as simple as possible as long as it did the job

I did think also a normal hinge both sides meaning the door when open is less when area on the port side . Ill think on it for a while Im in no big hurry to do this job . The rest of the teak shutters will be for small double doors for above both settees in the main cabin

just out of interest I notice there is no compression post under your mast

Does the mast sit inline with the bulkhead on yours where as mine sits a couple of feet behind it

As you can see the mast is further foward on the Walker H28 Ketch's Donk
That boat of your is in great nik compared to mine
I bought a bottle of Ciscos favorite a couple of weeks ago and rowed around her she has had a name change she now Called "Driftwood" Dont have any photos only these of the Decals

When you compare the two there is a fair bit of difference in the mast location

I imagine the bulkhead supports your mast instead

Yes Donk it does
I think Bubbles walker Ca Va was a ketch and now a sloop with the mast in the same position as mine Im not absolute sure but I think so

the new name sounds good

I don't know about changing names being bad luck because mine started out as Aqua-Fae and then 6 years later became Addiction for around 24 years (with a plate on the compression post still saying Aqua-Fae) and now she has come home and is back to Aqua-Fae again in the bay where she was first moored in 1983

Every time Ive looked into the boom length to me there the same length What Id like to know is the mast height . I have read that some Walkers have a double spar mine is a single.
I do wonder if the sloop version of the Walker H28 had a longer mast or if there was an option of that on a Ketch
