After not departing the Marina for a month or so due to rebuilding the raw water pump and full engine service I took my Tub for a over night run last weekend to the island.
At 1700 rpm she struggled to 4.8 knots in flat calm conditions with a really ugly wake.

I called upon my trusty mate Diver Dan and for $100 he cleaned her bum on Saturday while I was at work.

Now
At 1700 rpm she now cruises to 6 knots with a clean wash and at 2000 rpm she started digging in the bum just touching 7knots with clean white raw water exuast.

It was a cold night last night but the 2kva Honda and electric heater kept me nice and toasty for about 4 hours till it ran out of fuel! Then it was up to Trim to keep my feet warm although she rather would just attack them most of the times!

thought I seen another boat on my radar coming to enjoy my Honda! Never made eye contact with it I geuss scared them away!

Next job is to install my new solar panel and start looking at sails and rigging! It never ends! ,

How do you find the antifoul holds up once it has been scrapped by a diver? In my experience once you start scrapping you need to do it ever month or so. That said, if it needs to be done it needs to be done.

Use a plastic scrapper and a soft scourer pad. It depends on the antifoul and how much you use the boat I guess. I got 4 years 4 dives from my last yacht that was in cruising mode. 16 months from current yacht with hemples paint I belive and this is the 2nd dive in past 4 months.

I do similar to southace. With a hard racing anti foul she will usually go 2-3 years between antifouls. A rub down by Bob the diver at about 12-15 months, again at intervals of a few months until the next slip. Divers here don't like to rub down boats with ablative anti fouls as they run the risk of antifoul blooms in the water getting them into trouble.

He told me I was mad and when i disagreed he turned his back, walked away with a look of contempt. The Hempel ablative was 10 years old. It smoothed out without lumps in less than 15 minutes with a power stirrer so we put it on, 2 coats and a lick on the leading edges. 6 months and not even slime on the bottom, so just a heads up, if you have old paint and it reconstitutes to look like new there is no reason I can see why you can't use it.
I saw an American couple working on their prop. They had sanded it down and were painting it with Sharpie permanent marker. I asked them if that worked and they said they always used it, they had come through Panama, one of the dirtiest water ways on earth, and across the Pacific without a problem. So I bought $15 of Sharpies and gave it a go. I have run aground 4 times since - 3 trying to find the magic path from the yellow to Urangan at low tide - and stirred up a lot of sand, enough I thought to have blasted my Sharpie off, but I am still getting 7 knots at 3000 revs which is about normal. I think that the crazy marker pen paint is working.

Well that is a new one for the books. Certainly cheaper than Prop Speed.

i own a slipway use lots of hempel love it don't mind old antifoul but wont put it through our airless as it always clogs the gun as to perment marker i have seen it tried several times and it has never worked to my knowledge i would try test panel first

Im curious Phoenix I'm currently doing 6 knots at 1750rpm for the next 4 hours. What main and gearbox do you have? 3000 rpm would scream my 55hp four cylinder.some eurpe boat from forums claim they run at simular Rpm as you. I wonder if my taco is out?

My average rev range is 1500-2200 rpm, (30HP) so I'm nearer to your end of the scale.

I have an old 30 HP Perkins Perama pushing 5.5 tons of fairly easily driven hull. Max revs are listed at about 3700 and I usually run at about 2000 and that gives me about 6 knots.

And to reply to boty, the jury is still out on the Sharpie. The American couple said that they only used that brand, I don't know if that is relevant.

My 660 cc Yanmar 2 QM 15 runs sweet at 2400 rpm and pushes my 4 ton 30 footer along at 5.5 to 6 knots in smooth water.

A 3 GM 30 might give her 7 knots.

Similar for me. Since the hull has been cleaned properly (amazing how much anti foul accumulates in 40 years), my Yanmar 3GM(20) does 6.2 at 2300, maxing out just over 7 at 2700. Probably the folding 2 blade that limits the revs. Or the wide girth.

I just had propspeed applied during the last haul out. The engine is used at least once a week, but within 6 weeks, it had growth on the prop. Cleans off easy enough, but would probably have had the same result with anti-foul. With far less cost.

I don't think so, it doesn't seem to like water.

The texta job goes way back, helsail 2 , secret men's business , advantage . early 90s racing boats . I just antifoul my props but I believe I have prop speed on my current.
