Help brothers from different mothers!
Sunday was a lot of fun! If my Tasman didn't break on Sunday it never will....
I am trying to repair the damage. The idea is to fold one meter of a good strong material on the both sides and sow it in a zig zag way. Maybe pass twice on the leech!

Any thoughts?

Stay safe

If it is rotten repairing it won't help. Normally they tear on the seams, that looks like it has gone through the material.

It also looks like it has been repaired previously so my guess is a new to you sail is in your future.

Is the sail stored on a roller furler?

Lay the damaged area out onto a clean smooth surface with the torn bit as close as possible to the original. Lay a strip of sticky back along the whole length of the tear [50mm wide]. Do both sides. Then zigzag stitch around the outside edge of the sticky back a couple of mm in from the edge.
While you have the sail laid out on the ground take all the measurements and get a quote from Hyde sails. Galatea hopefully will be along shortly to assist.

Haha Thanks Ramona, here I am.
Sail looks pretty old, as is the case OK to do cheap repair to get a bit more out of it. But need to think of replacing if you put yourself in situations where you need to rely on it.
Use insignia cloth (stickyback) to patch up (make sure it is washed in fresh water first, salt will affect the adherence). Then follow the given advice to sew about 10mm inside the edge of patch, needle holes in old cloth will create an perforated effect and tear easy. even then you will need to be gentle on usage!
By all means would love the opportunity to quote tonybull@hydesails.com.au or just to keep others honest. I had one client in who brought second hand for small changes and found he had paid similar price for new replacement??
