Looks good. A decent contract costs about $65 per month but you can hibernate your contract for $6 per month when not off adventuring. I couldn't see what satellite system it uses. The convenience of a standalone unit but you can't make phone calls like you can with the iridium Go. Seems the Delorme company has just been bought up by Garmin.

I purchased one of these in Townsville last year before I brought the boat around to Perth. I found it to be an excellent product with a really good battery Life. You can post messages to face book or to the earth mate website so friends can see where your have been and where you are going. Also SMS to friends and family. The Bluetooth connection to the mobile is great for typing messages as it is a pretty slow process typing on the unit itself.
It uses the Iridium network so coverage is excellent.
I think I paid around $450 back then

Can these devices receive grib files or weather reports offshore?
