Okay, one for the brains trust.

When I was taking Galini up the coast for the first time, we discovered that the water system needed some attention. So the water bladder is currently at home and I'm soon to replace all the plumbing. (fortunately there isn't a huge amount of it)

Anyway, ran tap water through the bladder several times, water is clean. Took the bladder out of its cover to hang up and discovered brown slime inside the bladder (photo hopefully attached).

Any suggestions for cleaning this, I've tried flipping it inside out which didn't work - my next thought was puratabs but that will only make the water safe to drink, not solve the problem.

So I figured I can't be the first person with this problem and thought I'd ask for your advice.

I'm guessing but baking soda mixed with water or a vinegar/baking soda mix might be the go. "Metal Gleam" which is an acid mix will rip it out but there might be an after taste.

I had similar with mine. Detergent and a bit of bleach and rubbing the material together got rid of it. Then of course lots of rinsing. I think it is an ongoing problem with bladder tanks and am wondering if there is a regular treatment that will keep it in check.

Vinegar and baking soda can be an explosive mix if contained. They will react with each other but I don't think what is left will do much. May be a flush with baking powder solution to react any acids away and then a flush with vinegar solution the react any alkaline away. Neither should leave a taste.

If using detergent it needs to be very well rinsed.

what about home brew sterilising powder or liquid. ? im guessing i need to do the same with my bladder on my new tophat also.

I think it is meta formin in that stuff which buggers up the taste of home brew and is a tad toxic.

Sodiummetabisulphate.
A powder used in home brew sterilisation and reverse osmosis plants.
And, if you get a lungful, cleans out the sinuses.
