G'day all,
I have been offered first dibs on a clansman 30 that has been sitting for a while. I would be buying the boat to do up and do a few trips up the east coast. Only if the price and condition permits of course. I was wondering if anyone knows how much headroom these boats have got, i am not interested in crouching.

On another topic as well. I have read that the clansmans have GRP over ply on the decks and interior. Are the decke prone to rot? Or have they been done right.
Cheers,

Maybe the best resource re the Clansman is to watch a few(or more) episodes of Free Range Sailing on Youtube, there are about 140 episodes because they have been sailing their Clansman for about 3 years...from Perth up over the Top End and are currently somewhere in Tassie. I've enjoyed binge watching when holed up because of Covid. Each episode is about 15-20mins, strongly recommend.

No matter if a ply sandwich deck is done right it can rot if someone had drilled a hole through it and mounted a fitting without coring it. Given the age it is probably highly likely. Get the hard handle end of a screw driver and tap all over the deck and you will soon find any rotten parts. Start outwards from any fittings drilled through the deck.

Well i drove up to look at the boat last week. For anyobe else wondering i reckon theres 6ft headroom at the companionway which decreases as you go foward (as you would expect). The boat was too far gone for me. Im not interested in rebuilding a 50 year old boat.

Sorry mate didnt see your comment. Yeah i have been watching there videos a lot lately. They have some pretty good content. I like that they are doing the trip in a cheap boat and on a budget, i reckon it relates more to "normal people" who cant afford million dollar boats. Good on them for getting out there and doing it i say.
