I am guessing that a Hanse owner is soon to get up close and personal with his insurance company, no?

Thankfully, we were all sitting on the other side, so it missed us. Both of us in the same race, though he's in another division. No obvious damage to his boat.

Pretty scary at the time though - his bow came to rest on top of our deck, so it pushed the whole side down, letting in loads of water. We climbed aboard his boat, they floated off a bit and mine came back up. Rule 500 auto bilge pump did it's thing and had the bilge emptied in about 20 mins max. Pretty happy with that little guy!

Wow, that's a big hit! I hope the follow-up goes smoothly for you.

Man, that is a solid hit, I'm glad to hear all you guys are ok. You wouldn't want to be the nervous type, you'll be waking up with nightmares of a shark attack but by a big bow for the next 6 months!
Was it windy? It looks like more than what a nice gentle 5-10 knots would do.

It is really the last thing one would like to happen while out there enjoying an afternoon sail.
As you are wisely insured - according to your earlier posts - l don't think it is going to take too long to be back at the start line.
Now the test of QBE's goodwill is on again. (if l remember correctly, you are insured by QBE via a broker)

Lucky as you are, that your crew is safe and the boat floats, l wish you patience and resolve to fight your claim to a satisfactory conclusion!

If you could post a sketch of the accident for us to better understand what happened would be great, it would teach us how to avoid similar mishaps in the future.

Just going through the process now, sounds like I might actually be best of getting quotes then sending a letter of demand to the other guy and handling it through his insurance. Otherwise, yep, it's QBE through the broker. I've spoken to the broker at least three times this morning and they've been absolutely stellar in laying out what to do, providing templates and asking to be kept in the loop etc. (I did learn the hard way that QBE doesn't take my claim directly - it has to come via the broker...good to know).

The other skipper is fine - I've been racing at the club with him for the last 5 years and he was straight up and admitted fault to myself and the BSO who came by. How his insurer (Club Marine) acts in that position is anyone's guess. Very straightforward port/starboard incident with the others at fault.

It really had been a perfect days racing to that point - sunny, but not too hot, about 15kts of wind with gusts to maybe 18kts. I was on a starboard tack, close hauled heading NNE just near Long Nose Point. My crew (bless 'em) were still keeping a lookout below us and suddenly found that big German boat bearing down on us on port tack. We tried yelling out, but they couldn't/didn't hear us. I tried turning away but I'm guessing they must've been doing a good 6kts or so and those things weigh somewhere in the region of 2T, so yeh that's that.

Quotes wise, I've got John from Presidents heading over there tomorrow and someone from Cosine at some stage later this week. I'm pretty sure it'll be a write off, but never know I guess.

Wish you all the best with attempting to get a satisfactory result from club marine. I couldn't and gave up and funded the repairs myself.

Get as many quotes as you can as they might differ enormously, especially if there are controversial opinions.
One might advise repairs one might condemn the hull.

It is probably advisable to go for the dearest one no matter what as the insurer is most likely going to offer you a cash settlement. This way they don't have to worry about other issues concerning the repairs.
Those bastards ought to produce profit, that is their bottom line, nothing else matters for them.

Don't forget, you are dealing with your enemies. Be patient and smart! You must end up winning!
