I registered it. Now I don't know why I did? If I hadnt I would have saved 7 years worth of payments. Like the previous owner.

In WA if the boat has a motor or is set up to carry one i.e. an outboard bracket then you have to be registered.
I guess someone has to pay for the upkeep of nav marks etc.

The local Msb bloke checks on all the yachts for a rego sticker and checks your mooring position on his plotter. You would get a notice to remove if you did not comply.

Do they put a environment Levey on QLD reg ? or are you subsiding the coal ships

In Tassie it was $74 for rego and $74 for my mooring licence per annum. Not sure if it has gone up from 2014-15 as I have been cruising around NZ.

Here in NZ you only need to pay to park your boat, either in a marina or mooring (the local council issue those permits).
No licence fees and no rego! Yep no rego requured on anything from a tinnie to a luxury gin palace, not even jetskis are required to be registered.

Heading back home to the Tamar by Jan 2017. But as a boat owner who sailed south from Sydney over 10 years ago to escape the fee hikes and ridiculous slipping fees, I am now tempted to immigrate to NZ!

I guess when your reaping in $1.80 or so for every GST dollar raised, you can charge SFA for rego and moorings.

If there was a place in NZ where the weather was warm, (20C+ all year), l would have migrated there long ago.

I live on the Gold Coast but have a house in Northern NSW I think I might register my boat in NSW.

Im from Auckland. Never sailed in nz but when i look at ak harbour it blows me away. Must be some of the best cruising in the world. Peninsulas. Islands etc..australia politically is becomming a ahit hole for common folk and the rules and new daily laws that are made are to suit the wealthy. I swear sydney is being sold to the highest bidder. Nz is a bit expensive for some things though. Petrol =$2.30 blick of cheese about 16 bucks. Congestion in auckland worse than sydney, housing is expensive. But its friendly and the culture we grew up with is beautiful. Nz unfortunately is changing politically like australia but at least they havent had multiple pms in recent times like here.

While on this topic whats the go with registering your boat nationally Australia reg?
would you still need a state registration as well?
is it less expensive?

I'm wondering why Stupid's Qld reg is $737.

I went onto the Qld Transport site and did a bit of a check and a 10 meter boat cost roughly $350 to register and a 15meter boat is roughly $472 to register so I am guessing that either Stupid has a VERY big boat or Queensland transport has made a mistake.

Unfortunately Aus reg. does not cover your boat in different sate waters in the same way your state reg. does not cover you overseas.

I agree with auscruiser, mine roughly $350 for 25 foot boat, definitely enquire about it.

According to the Queensland Transport website the fee of $737.15 is for the registration of vessels over 20m in length.

It's hard to tell the length of your boat from your profile picture, it's certainly not a 30 footer but it also doesn't seem to look like a 65 footer either.

If your vessel is over 20m in length then you are paying the correct fee but if it is less than 20m in length then a call to Queensland Transport would seem like a good thing.

In regard to the cost getting higher every year. Thats the Govt getting an even bigger bite of your dollars and it will keep happening until eventually all our income is given directly to the Govt and they issue us all with basic shelter and food rations.

It keeps going up because the Australian Governments whether Federal, State, or Local are the biggest organised crime groups on the continent, and organised crime is greedy, (note add Tasmania into that although saying their organised may be a stretch)

Don't commit crime, the Government hates competition

Many seem to have missed the point, it's not about the cost as much as it is about the rate of change of the cost.

How many others in Qld have had their boat cost go up by 485% in ten years?

I think Stu's point is that if it had begun at $730 and stayed at $730 over ten years, there would not be the sense of outrage against a thieving government dept.

Have boaties in Qld benefitted by the constant increases in their fees? Or has the money been frittered away on other useless government spending?
