I changed my window frame and found wood rot between the plywood bonded to the fibreglass cabin. I cut it out, bonded in new plywood with epoxy . I will have teak trim going over the but joints.


I took a bit of ply offcut to Bunnings and they put about 6 different brands of Jarrah and teak stains but I couldn't get a match which was close.

As the wood is bonded I don't have a second chance if I get it wrong.

Any suggestions on how to get a better match?

I did something similar with a pretty good result by combining a few different wood stains, and doing trials on off-cuts till I got as close as possible.

Thank you for the response, I thought there may be an easier way but it looks like I'm going to have to bring out my artistic talent.

I wanted to match some varnished cherry once. I took a piece to the Perth Woodworking School to ask for advice. One of the lecturers looked at the piece and said "by the yellowing of that varnish it would have to be 15 years old". He was wrong by 1 year.

I changed the way I was going to do the job, but unfortunately, it's unlikely you'll find an off the shelf solution.
