Hi everyone

I have a BMC 1.5 Tempest with a raw water to coolant heat exchanger. I pulled the anodes out of the raw water side to check. Ones done its job quite well and worn away, the other seems to have disappeared or wasnt installed in the first place.

Ive attached a few photo's. The green exchanger is the coolant side and the long black box is the raw water side. My issue is my manual only includes the coolant side of the heat exchanger and so I dont know whether the raw water side is after market or original. It doesnt look to be the bowman bl180 which is currently advertised for sale with BMC's.

Does anyone know what brand/model this exchanger is and where I can get anodes? Ive been in the local chandellry at Tin Can Bay and we couldnt really find a match in the catalogue.

The anode outside thread is 26mm, hex bolt head is 27mm, overall length is now 35mm incl. corrosion.

Any help would be awesome. Thanks in advance

The anode will be separate to the bolt that threads into the casting. If you can get a pair of vice grips on the anode with the hex in a vice you might be able to separate them. A bit of WD40 or similar may help. New anode available from Whitworths may be the right thread to go back into the bolt

The anodes on my diecon heat exchange are a similar set up, you can try to unscrew them & find a replacement, but I drill the old zinc out and jam a piece zinc rod in.

I used to buy just the rods and I was fortunate to have a pensioner living next door who would cut the thread on the ends so they just screwed in. Now I would just reduce the end on the lathe so it's a snug fit and use a bit of JB Weld at the base to glue the anode in. Bit of heat would have it out easily.

A lathe would be nice I use a sanding disc on the battery grinder & press it home with a hammer, a glue might interfere with the electrical ? connection

Thanks for all the info guys. I havent found the right anode, but there is one that is too long but all other dimensions are correct. I'll just order it and cut it.

Just a dab at the base. Probably not needed if the machining is a snug fit and the anode is driven home with a vice as a press. The tip wears away first.
