Hi Mizzenmaster

Welcome to the forum

There are a couple of Walker H28 owners on here and one of them from down your way (HG02) is currently refurbishing his and making some major changes to the internal layout and doing some nice work on her

I personally have a Kahn Walker designed Sailmaster 845 sloop that looks similar to a Walker H28 above the waterline and inside the cabin but is different below the waterline

I hope you enjoy the forum

Regards Don

Yep i don't mind the tiller

I often stand up and lean on the dodger and steer with the tiller (mine has been replaced and is longer than the original) between my knees and i always know where the rudder is pointing

Hey Mizzenmaster,

welcome to the forum.

I'm pretty sure we've met.
Naima used to be my dads boat, at LBC, and I have the cat 'Excite' at the lagoon.

It was only sold because they wanted a V birth and bought a Cavalier 32.
We built the solid dodger and I have lost plenty of fingerprints sanding and oiling all of that timber.

Good to see she is still one of the prettiest H28s around.

There is a Walker H28 named Gumnut moored at Sorrentto that used to be at Hastings, Vic, in the mid 90's when I had a little wooden Piccaroon pocket cruiser there. The owner was the nicest bloke you would ever meet. I wonder if he is still yachting?

Hey crusty i guess you dont have any construction photos of the dodger laying around
Also wondered about head clearance
For a 6 footer where you could bump your head on the dodger or not

sorry HG, this was before smartphones were as common, and we never organized enough to have a camera around much.
Even today, I do stuff of the boat and realize I should have got a few photos and it's too late.

In terms of overall height, it was set to match standard Jones 'vertically challenged' height at the time.
Construction was done when the boat was on the slip one time, from something like airex foam then glassed up, and the shape arrived at by what we thought looked right.

Technically it may be a little too upright for some from some angles, but to me combined with the bowsprit and the deadrise I think it helped to make the boat like a little ship, and it got away with it.

Mizzen I am sure you would know of the 3 other H28s at our club also.
When you come across with the other Geelong boat, that makes 5, plus if you get HG down this summer..

Billy had a dodger made up for his boat by Brendan Garner of Powerdrive. One of the most aesthetic results that I have seen.

edit but he is a dwarf so not sure what headroom clearance would be.

She is a pretty one Jabberwock
Long bowsprit? And a bit of extra wood in the cockpit Nice!

Crusty good to hear from you, yes we have met, you kindly made yourself known at the Lagoon (one of our favourite spots)
you on are right about the dodger it does work and after smacking my skull on the captain Nemo as they call the original dodger on Meriki II another Walker out of Western beach Boat Club I am more than happy.
I think Billy spent some time eyeballing the dodger on Naima before settling on the design.
Frant what are you sailing how about some Pix?
Guitz I have heard Gumnut on the VHF many times.
Colombo looking good, where is she lying looks warm? So does the pooch!
Madmission hope to meet you out there
Walker HG and Don great to chat and loved all the Photos

There may be an Idea for a catch up this summer @ the lagoon and Western beach?
