Look,
being playing with antifouling paint for the last two years. Did many many experiments. I am lucky to live near the woolwich dock and been taking samples from people painting their boats adding copper, antibiotics, copper ammonia complex to micron 2 and out of all experiments the conclusion is:
2 years headache free: seahowk antifouling paint
5 years headache free: Juton seaquantum 3 silicon antifouling paint.
10 years headache free: 5kg epoxy paint +3 kg copper dust. Mix this together and apply on your boat. Currently my boat is full of barnacles after 6 months (international micron 2 plus copper ammonia complex and some strong antibiotics) this combination won on my tests. The message is no matter what you add into your paint it will not change much. I am a medical doctor and I tried everything in my lab. Copper is not solution, silicon is. Try Juton silicon Seaquantum 3 paint I think this is your best bet. If you want to buy epoxy paint and copper dust let me know. You need to go to Auburn and get copper dust from the factory and to Gosford to get your epoxy based paint. I personally would touch nothing else than copper cote. My bigger boat has copper cote on it and I am headache free for 10 years (diver every 6 months and that is it). Please save your self time and money and don't you ever think of trying to add anything to the paint it makes things worst. I have done so many experiments and I have failed every time but I used such a strong chemistry that you wouldn't believe it. Here are the results of some paints from worst to the best after 6 months test on panels
6) Altex 5 (10 barnacles per panel)
5) Altex 5 +copper + antibiotics (7 barnacles)
4) Micron 2 (6 barnacles per panel)
3) Micron 2 + copper ammonia complex + strongest antibiotics in the world (Vancomycin 3) (2 barnacles)
2) Seahawk (no barnacles at all) a lot of slime
1) Copper dust and epoxy paint a bit of slime only.
I was determined to find the best paint and best additives to keep boats clean for 5-10 years but I have failed. Two years of serious work and just a little improvement with copper ammonia complex. Many many failures.
If your budget allows than apply copper cote if not I will help you to make it yourself, otherwise Seahawks + pulse cooper ammonia complex ( 3X 200 ml yates liquid copper Bunnings) per gallon. Mix well and please wear a mask. The rest is not even worth considering.
Good luck and be careful when experimenting with chemicals.
Great deep info , really appreciate .
The bad news is I've already purchased Micron extra 2

and copper dust . Just waiting for weather window to carry on .
I will definitely apply your research for my next antifouling job .
Ok, mix your micron 2 paint with copper dust and add some epoxy paint. That will harden a bit your paint and it will make it last longer as long as you scrub it often and expose fresh copper. International micron 2 has around 60% copper if you add pure copper dust you will end up with 80% of copper and that will not stick my friend. Done that been there .. I would add some epoxy paint into it to hold all together. Please be careful when experimenting with this chemicals. You will never get the right polish and you will be a knot slower for sure. If you are racing you will be pissed off. If you are in Sydney let's meet and try to research the best ratio. I am scared that you will overdose on copper and loose your smoothness. More copper doesn't necessarily means less growth. The Smoother the paint less growths. For that reason I would add a bit of epoxy paint in your copper and micron 2. In addition, you can jump into a local pharmacy and get some powder for the athletic foots, its anti fungal and will work on grain positive and grain negative bacteria without harming environment. what ever you add, don't forget that you want smooth paint. Too much copper will not be smooth at all . Consider some epoxy based paint in this case.
Is there any epoxy paint you recommend ?
And mixing antifouling with epoxy paint ?
What ratio be suitable ?
Fungi powder !!! That's the first i ever heard ??

Just wonder , what kind of antifouling commercial ships are using ? I've seen tugs and barges and large ships without any growth, none at all .
Barges and tugs sitting in water and not even a slime or green stuff on it !!
Seen them taken into dry dock and it's just another paint ad the old one is worn out .
