Dear family and friends,

After 11 years of coppercote on my boat it is time to antifoul the boat again. I am trying to make my own coppercote like brew but I am very sceptical of the outcome. My second thoughts is Altex 5 Plus. I was lucky once and managed to get some from a fellow who painted his boat. The sample did well but after 6 months somebody removed my sample so i could not see the results after 18 months. I was impressed after 6/7 months. I did test any and each point I could grab from people painting their boat at Woolwich dock but this one was slime free after 6 months.. impressive. Better than Seaguardian! Remembered slime on micron 2 made by international after 6 months.
Did any of you had any experience with the Altex 5 Plus paint? Thank you.

Got 14 L today, should be able to roll 3 cotes somehow. This product is heavy. Full of copper.

isn't that Carboline 504 a barrier coat? Are you going to remove the coppercoat? If so how?
I may be wrong here, but isn't Altex 5 plus the same paint as Carboline 3000?? I was of the understanding 3000 is the commercial version of No5 plus but a bit cheaper?
Also if it was only a matter of putting in some copper sulphate wouldn't the paint manufactures do it?

Below is my boat on the slip yesterday, last slip May 23, had a scrape early February, used fairly regularly, once or twice a week, but she sat for about 8 weeks while I was away mid April to mid June. Painted with Jotun Seaguardian, applied professionally. I seem to get about 8-9 months then the antifoul falls of a cliff. A little disappointed, have tried various paints, all seem about the same.
Apparently there is a new version of Seaguadrian and my boat will be getting a coat of it, maybe it will work a bit better, maybe it'll be just another antifoul that Port Hacking marine growth will feast upon! Hopefully I'll report back in 12 months with good news.

Will sand and put the undercote on it. Copper sulphate will never be in paints made by companies who are regulated by governments. I made 20 different samples and the less amount of copper sulphate that works the best is 7.14 %. IT clears all microorganisms under The microscope in a sec. More than that is not necessary because it can cause harm to the environment.

Mike, if that only lasts 9 months they have put only one coat on and that's about what you can expect. Altex requires 3 coats!

Ahh, its good to see that I'm not the only one cynical about marine professionals and their claims.

I keep a pretty good eye on the boat when she's goes up and I'm fairly sure she got 2 coats but maybe 3 was what was required. Maybe they pulled the wool over my eyes and there was only one coat but there comes a time when you have to trust the word of the people you engage to do a job.
There has been an ongoing issue with antifouls not going the distance in Port Hacking for a few years now. Is your boat in Port Hacking?

There's a reason the government regulates what is in antifoul.

I have used Jotun a fair bit over the years on my yachts and fishing vessel when it was sold by the fish coop. It varied from batch to batch and one lot lasted 3 months! The coop had to switch brands. You could pick up the cans and feel the difference in weight. It used to be made in the Western suburbs of Sydney but that has ceased now.
