You are doing really well with the boat Dexport. All the best with your adventures.

Did you get your propellor sorted?

Have to say never seen it before . Makes me wonder about the boats I really liked but discounted because the traveller split the cockpit

Thanks. Yes I like it so much more now. I first noticed that system on a larger boat, but on that it was mounted forward of the cockpit and the boom bent like a banana hard on the wind. It works really well and whats great is, with the snap shackles on the bottom I can just unclip one-side while on a long tack and then the cockpit is completely walk-through.

G'day Dex,
That was really good to watch, I found the non sailing just as interesting as the sailing shots.
Your editing is simple but adds a lot to your videos.

Insightful video thanks for sharing.

What is the white finishing paint you use on your storage and traveller re-inforcement plates?

thanks

Really love the lines of your boat - so similar to a van de start Forna. What are your polars like?

Any intention of creating a couple of quarter berths above the storage? Also at some stage I'd love to know how easy / affordable drones on (and obviously above) water can be?

No idea about Polars. How do I find that out?
Yep, there will be a mattress each side with lee clothes.

I've ben flying drones for over 10 years, built my own back the early days. These days its pretty easy but having said that its pretty much guaranteed that the drone will end up in the water at some stage. There a bit of a technique to launching and landing from a sailboat as theres not much free flat space. Landing is hard when there is any sort of a sea running. The footage you get is worth the risk though in my eyes. Just don't get too attached to the drone though as you'll loose it sooner or later.

Polars are the theoretical or target boat speed \ sail vectors for various wind direction/ strength scenarios. They are essentially the max speed you can expect at different wind angles / wind strengths, assuming a flat sea state/ no tide etc.
See polars for vds Forna: yachtconsulting.de/www.yachtconsulting.de/forna37g.html
You may be able to find your boats polars via internet - search boat design + polars.

Ah ok, yeah I've seen those before. Not really of interest to me though. If I was to build a boat maybe but I now own this boat so it is what it is. How often in the real world is there no sea state or tidal action? Those details aren't really relevant to me I think.

The lines on that Forna are very similar! Keel is quite different, shaft drive etc and the weight of the steel one is double mine.

Yes those polars do seem a bit theoretical, but they do allow comparisons - particularly as you say where above water design may appear v similar, but below different. So my reason for asking was to try to understand how the weight/ keel and sailplan may influence sailing characteristics.
Ha, not going to influence 'conviction bias' my for a is what it is too, but helps in my understanding on design

Yeah for sure, as comparisons they would be helpful I guess. My boat a custom one-off build as far as I know, John Sayer built quite a few similar boats but more in the 40ft and over range I think. The deck on mine was built for a 40ft and adjusted slightly to fit my 37ft. I guess the designer might have Polars for my boat or of very similar models he's made.

The Mavi Pro seems to be a popular choice of drone. Good thread on www,cruisersforum.com

Yep, its the best little drone by far, not quite so easy to "hand-catch" as the bigger Phantom though. Quality is amazing and so small you can take it anywhere.

Lots of youtube videos on hand catching The Mavi but not from a pitching deck! Watched a woman using one over the water here a couple of days ago and I was certainly impressed. She was raving about how good the camera was.
