Hi All,

Chasing some2nd hand sails for an old Hills and Cameron Sorcerer. anyone have a lead on 2nd hand sails dealer (outside of sailexchange.com.au)? Current sails are from the 80's so searching for something a little newer.

ideally 7-7.2m luff and 2.2m foot with bolt rope on luff and foot for main and 7.2m luff and 2.4m foot for the Jib at 100%

Always just for comparison, get a price for new. I sometimes have clients come in for same work to adapt a 2nd hand sail for their boat and am shocked to see how much they paid for it, after I have done my bit it works out close to a new one in price.
A very good 2nd hand sail (near new) should sell for about 50% of new.
I had one particular chap who brought in some sails to be repaired for the umpteenth time and told him "sorry it's time they went in the bin", they were threadbare and tearing regularly.
I later saw them advertised online as "in very good condition".

A fair point, and I am looking at getting sails made new but with the usual family commitments etc they're going to be a few months off. like always it's a balancing act as the list of items to replace/add on the boat grows and family priorities are ever changing.

My second-hand Sail Exchange sail was by far the most expensive sail I've ever bought, in terms of $ per race. It worked out at about $300 every time I used it before it was retired with advanced delam. In contrast, the second-hand CYT dacron sails and even the kevlar and the othe string laminate D4s I've bought have generally been great value for money - but you really, really really have to buy with care.
