So far I have carried my mini on the roof rack of my truck.Now that I have added a third ski to the axle the rig is a tad heavy.I am now thinking about alternatives so I don't have to lug it up and off the roof rack. I don't want to dismantle the mini to fit it inside the back of my truck.So I am now thinking about mounting it on the back of my truck on the tow ball in some way like a bike carrier.Has anyone played with this idea so I don't have to reinvent the wheel etc?

i know its a kite buggy but something like this could work.

Or could make a hiab. I think AUS230 made a rig to sling yacht onto the top of his patrol.

That is how I transport my kite buggy too Ben.

I remove the tow ball/goose neck and my rack slides into the Reece Hitch receiver, which takes a 2" x 2" square tube. Yes they are still imperial sizes. 50mm x 50mm is a sloppy fit. You can still buy structural 2"x 2" x 1/4" wall square RHS in Australia.
The horizontal 3/4" locking pin secures it and a 1/2"lock bolt on a diagonal corner stops it from rattling around in the receiver.

The rear window of the canopy can still be opened and additional tail lights have now been added at the top outer corners behind the glass window.
I should relocate my number plate too as my buggy now has much larger wheels. 12" x 21" Beach racer fatties.

Transport department issue auxiliary rego plates for [iirc] $20.00

The plate is about 1/3 the size and has the same number as your original plate.

They were introduced when the Transport Department recognised that moving the original plates is a PITA whenever you hang removable racks for bikes, wheelchair carriers [and kite buggy carriers].

I jumped online and got it sorted. Cost $24.70.
No need to carry my cordless drill and tek head driver anymore. Your a legend!!!!

As always this site is a mine of useful information.Chook would you mind taking a pic of your rack without the buggy so I can get a close up? My Pajero has the spare wheel mounted on the back door.Many thanks as always chaps

Main body is 50mm x 50mm x 4mm RHS with 40x40x2.5mm inserted for the supports. All bolts are 1/2"UNC Hitensile the total width is 1200mm 4'.

This is the horizontal centre piece. 600mm wide. 50x50x4.


This bit of pipe takes a 12mm diameter 1800mm long fiberglass electric fence post and has a windsock on the top for the wind direction at the beach.



This receiver is the 2" x 2" x 1/4" RHS



Now measurements from the top down.


































How I welded the pinch bolt onto my receiver to stop it rattling/swaying around.

Those plates are supposed to be around 3 to 4 weeks to arrive in the big smoke,

Last I checked, the only smoke near the Chook shed was from you melting stuff.

Can you bolt a couple of heavy wall tubes to each side of the chassis to use as sockets?

or bolt a stub socket to the plate above your tow hitch [where your tow loop is currently bolted]
this mounting plate is designed for a NATO military spec pintle hook hitch,

maybe use a combination of two chassis mounted sockets, and the pintle mounting plate?

buy a log shank tow ball and bolt it through a piece of 5mm wall 50x50 RHS the build your carrier on that

I bought this rack for bikes but it might work to carry my kiwi now sporting a new seat belt
