On the morning of March 26th, on the dry Lake Ivanpah on the border of Nevada/California USA, The Ecotricity Greenbird driven by British engineer, Richard Jenkins smashed the world land speed record for wind powered vehicles. The Greenbird clocked 126.1 mph (202.9 km/h) , eclipsing the old, American held, record of 116 mph , set by Bob Schumacher in the Iron Duck in March 1999 at the same location.

Pretty cool stuff huh?

Richard Jenkins has posted on this forum as "Windjet" last time he was trying to break that record in Aus last year.

I just wish he did it here and not in the US.

Is the outrigger on the upwind side (as a counterweight) or the downwind side (as a tricycle wheel if you will)

Looks to me if it's on the upwind side which means it's got to be heavy which = slower doesn't it?

the wing is a low acceleration wing , hence the counter weight to windward, The icebird is a high acceleration wing and set up more traditionally
