I am just about to order a Fallshaw 400 x 8KNO PWA20 Wheel for my LLFM project. I wanted ribbed tyres but NZ agent can only supply it with a "Diamond Tread"

Should I take that option or get the wheel without tyre and go through the hassle of trying to find a suitable ribbed tyre to fit?

I plan to use the yacht mainly on the each and/or grass and I think the diamond tread might have too much drag but trying to get a ribbed tyre might be hard given that Auckland I still in lockdown and I would need to order from there (or China??)and have it couriered and fitted locally.

Am I worrying too much about drag from the Diamond Pattern?

generally acepted that ribbed tyres are the ideal performers on beaches, A diamond patern may be ok on front but not on rear. Can you not just find a wheelbarow tyre, they are ribbed, and as long they are three or four ply, perfectly suitable ,I have used them for years and have used up to 40lb pressure with no problems.probably a lot cheaper than fallshaws, and probably readilly available in most car tyre depots Even in lockdown some must be open for buisness Mail order maybe ??
I've also used unbranded plastic wheels and the only problem I had was with one where the bearing siezed and turned in the wheel ruining the Hub .Never had one break up. Why would you need someone to fit the tyre, ifyou have ever changed a cycle tyre its just the same,as long as you use smooth tyre levers its a doddle ,I use large veg serving spoons, (thats why she who must be obeyed can't understand why there are three missing from the drawer)

Unless you are being super-competitive, just run the cheap diamond pattern tyres until they fall to bits.
With the rear wheels of a Lefroy mini being heavily cambered the tyres will wear off-centre, so when they wear down past the tread you can swap them around to spread the wear and get longer life out of your tyres.

If you can only find treaded tyres and you really want slicks - break out the belt sander or plane and delete the tread!

Agree with comments above Wheel barrow tyres are available in many places
I would not fit the diamond pattern if you can avoid it they are draggy and on the front they chuck
more sand up and over you. [A guard helps with that]

Thanks guys for the input. All sorted and a ribbed tyre fitted.

Now to build the axle which means another mail order for 20mm bolts and nuts..nothing here in town and, unless the local engineers have some 20mm threaded rod, I'll need to work out the length and order from Auckland or Hamilton.

Progress is slow but I have been involved in some Community Projects as well as reassembling a garden shed I moved and building a kitset Murphy Bed that has been sitting partly finished for too long
