You will be impressed! Landsailing in a mini is the BEST way to get into the sport...it just is, trust me!

Pics or it didn't happen

A class 5 Promo/Pacific Magic for NSW. Looks like compulsive construction disorder has spread to NSW. With my LLM complete, except for a sail recut & photoes, my thaughts have turned to a Pacific Magic. Hoping to meet some Lake Lefroy sailers early May (while on a unrelated trip West) to get some ideas & see the action, but in the meantime a few questions if I may! Why alum. rear axle tubes? Weight, flex?? What sectional size for front axle carrier / steering arm connection ?? Does mast step comply with FISLY B-3-1 / 1,4 & 5, or is it just better? A big thankyou to Paul Day for making available plans for LLM & Pacific Magic & saving us from lots of hidious mistakes.

we used to use ally in Oz,but the T6 nd T8 mast stuff is simply gone. all my yachts ,even class 5 are now all steel with carbon masts. I have 1 set of ally tubes at home in case I head to Europe again.even that was the last of the batch. not sure what the mast step question is, but If I was building a class 5 I would build a more modern yacht

Hi Landyacht, thanks for the response. By something more modern do you mean similar to Clemco`s SEABREEZE RAZOR or DEVIL YACHT, in the CLASS 5 DESIGN forum pages? Looks very interesting, but I`d find building wheels a challenge.

Have read , re-read, then read again the posts , threads, pages on wheel building, & with each reading it becomes a little less FRIGHTENING ! Sooo there could be a class 5 sport in the pipeline for NSW. Still looking for local company.

Building them flat and not dished and using existing bike rims by splitting them and using an aluminium spacer is by far the easiest way that I have found

Since I first made my wheels they have constantly evolved until I made the last set using a 75mm aluminum strip as a spacer, pop riveted to the spoke holes of aluminum rims(one side of each rim cut off) I have run the same set of wheels for 3 seasons now with no sign of failure so I think I have finally got it right.
I am now testing another tire that I think will be perfect for harder surfaces and at low cost. Crazy bob 2.35

Hi, Hiko & Aus230, thanks for the encouragement. The tyres being mentioned, Crazy Bob & Hook Worm, are they Mtn bike / BMX weight tyres? or does class 5 require highway rated motorbike tyres? The rims being modified/built look like Mtn bike rims. Are motoX rims to heavy ?

Hi, They are mountain bike tires and very light for there size, We use aluminum 26"push bike rims (one side cut of and strip added with rivets) Motorcycle rims are a different size and are probable to heavy for our use.
I tried the crazy bob tires at out last meet they were great on a hard surface.
