Hi Dan123
Certainly not trying to rain on your parade at all, cause once you're "in", you won't look back.

I'm hyper sensitive to safety issues today (go here for more info in case you haven't heard already:
www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Kitesurfing/General/very-serious-accident-phone-box-cott/ ) - this tragedy happened to an experienced kiter with many yrs experience.
Getting someone 'cheap & nasty' to teach you (or a mate) is a recipe for potential disaster IMO. Proper lessons will go a long way to minimising any potential disaster - and we don't need any more.
Hope to see you on the water sometime & welcome to the sport.
Juddy
